Default 2001 v8 GT

So I purchased my first mustang every today, im pretty new into the tuning scene and such. Anyway im looking to upgrade/add a few things to it.

Any suggestions on what I should get? Supercharger? Exhaust?

Forgive my newbness, anyhow thanks for the help.

Well first you need to figure out whether you want it to be NA, Nitrous, Turbo, or Blower. That will make a difference in what you do to the car. Also, what are you looking to get out of it? Just a street car, no track. Strip/ street car, etc.

Either way, a good first mod would be, MM full length subframe connectors. Part number MMFL-3PC on www.maximummotorsports.com

Another thing you can do is remove the air silencer (rubber cone shape) on the air filter box, and stick a K&N filter in there.

Another good choice is a short shifter, you have Steeda tri ax, Pro 5.0, B&M Racing, etc. Adding a catback really wont give you any additional hp.

So you can get weld in mufflers instead, or a whole catback, thats up to you. Figure out what if you want LT's or not. A lot of people complain about installing them, but its really not bad if youve done it a couple times. If you dont want LT's then you can get a new midpipe. Dont worry about hp difference between x or h because its VERY minimal. Its more personal preferance for what sound you like. Listen to some clips on www.mustangexhaust.com and figure out what you like.

Now if you want to go the supercharger route then I HIGLY suggest getting a Mongoose kit from Modular Powerhouse, http://modularpowerhouse.com/index.p...db0de3bc6305ae But Id get some mods on your car first (others besides what I mentioned). So that youll have "supporting mods" and so youll actually be able to use the power.

if you have the money, get a mongoose kit first. www.modularpowerhouse.com.
I have the exact same car, and spent close to enough money to probably buy a kit on other parts ( after labor and what not).
if you don't have another 4k to drop, here are some things i did:
subframe connectors
4.10 gears (get 4.10 if it's an auto.. don't waste money on anything else)
throttle body
intake plenum
remove the silencer
put in a k&n filter
underdrive pullies
and then an sct or diablo

i noticed the most power feel gains form the pullies and throttle body/penum combo.
gears will mkae you feel like you just added 50 horsepeower to your car. defeinaly a must have. hope this helps.

Yes its just a street car, nothing special, but im going to have this car for awhile so and I like a lot of power, turbo or blower I guess, not sure what the diffrence is really. Like I said im a newb.

Found a guide on how to do the silencer,, thanks.

id say get an s/c..but i'd wait.


buy boltons, learn as much as you can...when you think you're ready..and you're bored of n/a power..s/c it..or turbo if you have the means..

Noone has mentioned gears? I still dont have mine, but I hear its a great jump in acceleration. Id definately do shifter, subframe connectors, gears, x-pipe, mufflers, K&N filter, tires, and then an SCT xcal2.

After those mods are done I would start saving for a supercharger.

gears make a good mod... best bang for yer buck

exhaust won't get you really high power gains until you swap the heads...

the heads are the most restrictive part on mustangs... so thats a good idea... but ya'll want to consider whether you want to keep it NA or not... so you can decide on what cams to use... and if you do heads ya'll want (or possibly need) new headers...

exhaust before heads gets your car sounding like a mustang should...

there is so much you can do to a mustang

the aftermarket world is huge...

just think about where you want to begin.. .and research and ask questions from there...

also bolt ons on a mustang are rather pointless... the best way is to save money and go big...

another thing is the shitty stock 4x4 look mustangs have... so looking into springs and other suspension mods is a great idea... (our member here r3dn3ck is an expert with suspension)

pick gears after you've picked all the mods that affect your power band. If you get really wild cams, then much higher ratio gears are appropriate, if not, then a less dramatic change is fine.

for suspension, you'll need to decide how sensitive you are to ride quality issues, the condition of your area roads, how you drive, if you race and how much you want to spend. 4K in parts and 2k in install will have a suspension and brake package that will really make the power you have close to plenty. God knows with near stock power, on my suspension I can get myself into all the trouble I can handle.

First things should be:
cobra brakes (you'll thank me the first time you don't wreck your car)
subframe connectors
shifter
lowering springs, shocks&struts & CC plates.

Removed the silencer and installed a k&n filter this morning, ddint notice much of a diffrence, also the car is an automatic.

Anyhow, I wont be doing any racing, but I figured if I have the money why not hook it up you know?

So what ive gathered from posters here is:
1. Gears
2.exhaust
3. headers (no clue what this is)
4. connectors
5. brakes
6. springs/shocks/struts

Headers function just like the intake manifold, just instead of directing air to the heads, it directs air out of them. The stock manifolds are very restrivtive since they hinder flow. Replacing them with headers improves the flow and therefore creates more power.

All of this is probably going to cost more then you think. Every mod affects something, which is why you need to have everything planned out and know what you want to do with the car. Otherwise youll just be wasting money on the wrong mods or something you shouldnt be doing. Most people get **** and its set up the wrong way and they dont even realize it.

Gears, springs, shocks, and struts depend on what exactly you want to do with the car. So figure that part out, then you will get more detailed answers to set the car up correctly.

Do you care about corner carving? Is this your DD? You said you wont be racing, is this a show car?

It just for driving thats all, nothing special, no show car no racing, like I said I just like power and want it to look good at the same time.

Ok.

Gears- 3.73's since you want a blower
Exhaust- weld in mufflers or catback, catted or o/r h or x pipe is fine. You dont need to do headers.
Subframe connectors- will really help handling, but arent that important for you. So thats your choice, Id still get them though.
Brakes- 03/ 04 Cobra
Springs, shocks, struts, cc plates- Id go with Eibach pro kit springs or H&R's. H&R's are a little low for me, but a lot of people like them. Another choice is Steeda sport springs. For shocks and struts Id just go with basic stuff, non adjustable. Search in the suspension forum for recommendations. MM 4 bolt c/c plates are the only way to go.

Then you can do plenum and 75mm t/b. Then slap that blower on and youll have a well rounded street car.
