Default Hate my 2001 GT seats, any ideas?

Yes, I really hate the seats in my 2001 GT. They hit me below the shoulders, and the headrest is back too far, and too low to be of use! Yuk! The only alternative is to buy a set of crappy competition seats, which are hard as rocks, or try and fit something else in by trial and error. Even if someone knows of another year, that would be great, or even another brand. I need something normal that will handle a 200lb, 6'03" guy with some level of comfort, and not cost as much as a supercharger.

I have always been into the older ponys, I had 2 66's, cp & cnv, so I am not quite up on the newer models. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

OffDWall

I know what you mean... although I'm 8 in. shorter than you (I still have 2-4 years of growing left ) I don't like the headrests, they are so far back, you don't have much upper back support. I want to get some racing seats for around 300-400 a seat. They are pretty nice and I'm sure they are comfortable.

here are some links to the ones that I think look good at a reasonable price compared to MOMO and Sparco seats.

Yeah some Corbeau's would be a good choice.

Have you looked at/sat in the factory Cobra, Bullitt, or Mach 1 seats? All are way better than the GT setups, and you can get matching rear seats.

Until you decide on a seat change you could do what I did on the headrest. I purchased one of those neck pillows from Target for 10 bucks. I raised the headrest and tucked the ends of the neck pillow under it to hold it in place. Gives me something soft to rest my head against if I want and it stays in place well.

I too will eventually get new seats.

My buddy has these seats in his 97mgt and they are adjustable, very comfortable for even 2+ hour drives, and REALLY hold you in. Id deffiently look into some of the GTSIIs

it says they do for an additional 435 per seat in almost any color.

A friend of mine has a pair of Recarro's that look similar to those GTSII seats and are verry cumfy for long rides, they also seem to sit quite a bit lower than stock seats

It is no secret that mustang seats in general blow...

I really like the corbeau TRS' in leather. If I were to get seats, those would probably be the ones.

Does anybody know if the Corbeau or any other brand of seat will sit closer to the floor? My head nearly touches the ceiling now and when I wear a helmet at the track I have to slouch or **** my head to the side, which does nothing for my driving performance. also do these seats mount to the stock seat track or do you have to order a new seat track too??

All racing seats are generally lower to the floor. Which would probably be a problem for me since I'm only about 5'5'' and tried adjusting the stock seats as low as possible and couldnt see the road

If you don't want the racing seats how about the Bullitt/Mach 1 seats.

Considering your height :icon_bril the Mach 1 seats are very nice as far as looks not sure how comfy it is.

I'm in the same situation. I have the two tone tan interior which really cuts down my options. My suggestion is to try sitting in an 03 seat, Regular or Mach 1, (they have better head rest supports which can fold forward for more support). maybe it sits lower too, I'm not sure how much though. In my 02 Convertable GT seats, I'm 6'1" and I have to slouch without a helmet (seat is all the way lower) so the seats are definitely too high. This leads to back/neck pain. 03 Cobra seats seem to sit lower, I test drove one and they felt pretty good. They also have nice suede inserts and go in ebay for as low as $700 a set (Matching front and back with the nice suede centers).

I remember from drivers ed that its not a 'head rest' at all, its meant to be a 'head restraint' to minimize damage in an accident...

There is an article on Mustangworld that shows how to move your seat back 1 3/4 inches. My problem is I want to lower the seat, and havent yet figured a way to do it with the stock seats?

I'm thinking the power mechanisim is why they are so high. Might not be able to retain that and get any lower. I'd like to can the weight of that anyways so seats are somewhere in my future. Only 5'11" here though so the height is not a problem for me.

Yeah, you might be right. But I recently worked on a V-6 stang (I work at a Ford Dealer) with a power seat and I had at least 2 Inches for clearance from the top of my head to the headliner. I am going th find out if the V-6 car uses a different power seat track. When I sit in My GT I have less than 1/2 inch from my head to the headliner (I'm 6'2") add a helmet and we have serious interference!
