t56 is a 6 speed, and the only 02 cobras there were, went to australia so we dont have any. If its an 01, its a tremec 5spd. The t56 was only offered in the 03-04 cobras. For the t56, reverse is all the way to the right and looks like this

1-3-5-R
2-4-6

The T56 is bolt on also, but you might need a different drive shaft, ect. If that tranny that you bought bolted right up with no mods to the transmission crossmember, it's not even an 02 tranny, it's more of a 98 and down tranny. For my 97, i had to modify the 99 cobra tranny at the crossmember area just to make it work.

I read that there were no 2002 cobras cause by the time they finished the terminators, ford said screw it, it's an 2003 Cobra. Just like there's no 2000 Cobras, just 2000 Cobra R's. Ford had to fix all of the 99 Cobra problems, lacking power, and they had time for the Cobra R and that's all.

There are 100 2002 Cobras, but they are all right hand drive cars and they all went to Australia.

Officially, there were no 2002 Cobras produced in the US, but Ford's sales data shows 100 4-valve Cobras shipped to Australia as a special export batch in early '02. SVT has stated that they do not count these numbers in their totals but they were labeled as 2002 Models from Ford. These cars were exactly the same as the '01's except were made especially for Australia's standards

Sounds like your syncros are shot. I know them t5s ALWAYS had reverse problems, but not as far as shooting back out. For what its going to cost you for a new one, you might as well buy a 3650 or t56 which is more expensive. You can find the 3650 pretty easily on mustang forums or on ebay. On ebay its more of a chance that u dont know what you are getting other than whats described.
