12v source is any accessory wire. Most people tap into their cig lighter. My radar is taped into my windshield wipers, so you have a couple choices.

I have the Autometer Pro lite mounted on the steering column. Its great looking and doesnt flash directly into my eyes. It doesnt take pills so I have mine running with an MSD RPM activated switch that is mounted in front of my shifter under the shifter boot. I think theyre great!

I have a Raptor shift light. It's a nice, small, and unobtrusive alternative to watching the tach while driving at high speeds.
Installation was easy but took longer than the various instructions because I soldered all the connections.I mounted my Raptor to the top of the steering column using sticky dots so it can be moved if I so desire. The Raptor is completly adjustable from the drivers seat with no modules to buy,it's a self contained unit.Just wire it up and your ready to go.The website has all the instructions you need to do the installation in about 1/2 hour, longer if your'e as scared as I was to cut into the PCM wiring harness.

I would highly recommend soldering any splices and using shrink tubing to seal the joint. Quality work is important in wiring. Most car stereo shops are capable of doing the install for 20-50 bucks but you'll have to tell them which wire to use. They do enough soldering normally that they're good hands at it.
