Default What Brake Setup for 500hp 95stang

Ok I am building a 95 mustang from the ground up. Looking to upgrade the stock 95 brakes. Should be over 600hp. Any thoughts?

I am not sure If the baer or brembo are worth the money over some cobra or mach1 brakes. Should I upgrade both the front and the rears? Any help would be great. Thanks

PS I have been looking at some:
2000 cobra r front brake kit? Would they be worth $700 or should I stick with a Cobra Kit for $400 Any diferrences in the cobra r kit than the brembo kits?

First, your actuall HP is not totally relevant to the braking system needs. It simply needs to be strong enough to bring your car down to 0 from any particular speed, as often as you're likely to see that speed without giving out, and ideally it should be powerful enough to hit the limit of your tires ability to grip even after repeated hard stops. (With ABS this is less of an issue but I disabled mine and it matters a lot now.)

The cobra R 4 piston Brembo kit is definitely overkill for a street driven stang. If you plan on racing it regularly then I'd recommend the 4 pot kit and 11" cobra brakes for the rear. Otherwise, well see below...

The standard cobra/bullit/mach1 kit is more than suitable for the weight of the car even with OEM type pads. The floating caliper design is easier to deal with and there are fewer issues with general maintenance (plus they're waaaay cheaper). If you're just building a fast car for the street and want to stop with confidence, then a standard 4 wheel 2 piston 13" cobra kit is great with OEM pads. You can step up to EBC green or Hawk HPS pads on the front for even more bite if you're going for a day at the track. For the rear, EBC green and Hawk HPS are all I'd consider. They balance nicely with any front pad on cobra brakes in my experience.

Slotted rotors only if you must have non-plain-faced. No drilled rotors! Modern pads don't outgas so there's no need to vent anything. The slotted will keep the pad face clean and provide an escape route for dust which is nice but not necessary. For the rear, the cobra kit is nice as it uses vented rotors which helps if you get onto a hot run.

I have the Baer Trak kit. It's a simple 4 wheel cobra kit with Baer Eradispeed 1 piece (thick cheek) front rotors and brembo rears. I use OEM pads up front and Hawk HPS out back for the street and EBC Green all around for track duty.

Make sure you replace rubber brake lines with braided steel and use a good racing brake fluid (change all the fluid) like AJE Super Blue ($16 a quart) with a VERY high wet boiling point and a good-n-high dry boiling point.

If you can get a 4pot kit for 550, then why not. Just realize that you have more brakes than you're likely to need and you'll want to keep people off your azz in traffic since you'll be stopping WAY sooner than they think. I even had that little issue when I got my Track kit.

r3dn3ck that was some great info. Well I bought the kit yesterday. Got it for $550 shipped. I figured even if I decide to get the cobra setup I can always sell this kit. It is new in the box. The only racing I will do is once a month or so at the track and the ocational guy around town... My car is a vert so i relize it weights more than most. I have however some things to lighten the load up some like coil overs and kmembers and oh yea an aluminum block... Somone mentioned I should get the Brembo Sport Rotors for the rear to match the fronts. Think this is necessary?

plain ol stock cobra rear's are fine. They're made by brembo. The rear does less than 15% of the braking so it's almost irrelevant. I only upgrade the rears to keep from having balance issues.

Only prop with the R brakes are wheels. You need to check you bs. Most 17 and smaller wheels will not fit with R brakes. Keep your stock rear calps and just upgrade the rotors to 13inch, gives you as much as doing the whole deal. The track system, both in 13 and 14 inch are great setups. The fx offer twin and four piston setups, really too much for the sn95 body. Good ole' Cobra setup is great and can be found at lower prices.
