Default Headers vs. Warranty

Quick question.. Will putting headers on my 04 GT void my warranty? Thanks for any advice..

It'll void the header part of the warranty... and if something in the engine is damaged form the headers being messed up, then it'd void any chance of the warranty paying for it.

As for voiding the entire warranty, everything else would stay intact. I. e. if your a/c went out, or rotors wore, or starter went out(something unrelated to headers), then it'd stil be covered.

The only thing I can see voiding most of the warranty would be a power adder, sicne it can directly hurt the engine, tranny, rear end, etc. But over things unrelated to performance woudlnt be hurt. As an example, my rightside power window stopped working last thursday, but with my warranty, I just paid a small deductable and the rest was covered under warranty. Even if I had an engine swap and built rear end and pushing 600 rwhp, that power window would still be covered under warranty.

I see your point but, wouldn't adding headers be considered a power add on??

A power add on is not grounds for denying warranty work. You are protected by this:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...#Magnuson-Moss

As it was said above, you can have every bolt on imaginable, but unless they can prove that part caused the item in question to fail, they must fix it. IT IS THE LAW!

There's an excellent article in the June 06 MM&FF about this very subject. It was written by a lawyer and shows both sides of the coin.

Thanks for all the insight guys. I just wanna make sure if something (mainly the engine and drivetrain) does go wrong then my warranty is gonna cover it. Adding headers and maybe some flowmasters wouldn't be directly at fault for a spun bearing or such. I need to quit worrying and get my mustang up to par, and tell my wife to STFU... It;s my car,, LOL, HAHHAHAH (sometimes I kill myself)...

Headers will void your exhaust warranty. If you have internal damage to your engine.....ford wont cover it if any part of your warranty is void. I knew a guy that blew his bone stock motor. He had warranty on the engine but they would not cover it since he had a Fram oil filter on it. They said that the oil filter could have caused the engine failure. However it was the correct replacement part. He had to buy a new engine because of it. :censored:

Thats how nitpicky ford gets when its time for them to cough up some cash.......

Not to be a flamming ****-hole, but NO ONE KNOWS the answer to this question. There is NO clear cut answer NOR is there any consistency from dealers.

IMO, get the latest version of MM&FF. There is a great article written by a lawyer which addresses this very subject. Read it. The answer lies in that story. And guess what? It is a very complex issue.

For one thing, ford sells headers. If you by FRPP headers and have Ford install them, yo might get one response. Buy you own and install them yourself, that is a different situation. By law, Ford can not manadate that you buy their replacement parts and Ford sells performance parts....like I said, read the article.

OMG. I just scanned through said MM/FF article (thanks Venom). I'm sure somewhere in all my warranty paper work it says some of that stuff. I for sure dont read 5 pages of small print when buying something. Anyway Gaadaam just putting mufflers on may void my warranty.. But fck em. I'm going Friday to get some Flowmasters and possibly an x pipe.. Any suggestions? I wanna be loud rumble but not overly raspy..

[SIZE="3"]Heres my 2 cents MOD it as you see fit "BUT" save all your stock parts incase you do have a serious warranty issue. Before you go back to the dealer swap whatever you think may "VOID" your warranty claim. Dealers can be dicks or they can work with you. Basically it's work for them $$$ after all Ford reimburses the dealer for the repairs. I can't see a dealer chasing away a engine swap for a "oil filter issue". By the way you started with a HEADER ? and changed to a pipe & flows. If you do headers don't do anything less than longtubes and go with quality like SLP big $'s but well worth it. Oh ya set aside a good day and get some Neosporin you'll need it. MOD IT UP!
