Maryland Exhaust Inspection
A friend of mine said for the 95+ cars they do the emmissions test by using the O2 sensor and don't actually check the exhaust... Does neone know if this is true?, he passed his WRX w/out cats, I'm tryin to figure out whats true and not here, other states are welcome to respond too, i just wana make sure...

here in tx, 94 and older they use the ol banana in the tail pipe to test methode, anything newer they hook directly to the computer, and take a reading....thats not to say that if you have an arsch that looks underneath to see if the cats are there or not you won't pass, called the visual inspection

they just plug ur car in. if you have no check engine light u can get away with stage 100 cams and open headers. sometimes though they will look underneath. so get some fake heat shields welded on or something.
i am a criminal so i get around emissions testing.
dont ask how, i have my ways

in many places i dont think they really use the emission test. most state laws say it is ilegeal to mod your exsast in anyway, but dont really enforce it. its illegeal of course to not have cat converters. so it just depends on who the person is if you gte pulled over and they want to cheak

They are supposed to look under the car for the cats. Then they do the OBDII, I'm not sure that the cutoff is '95, I think it's based on how old the car is (like, in 2000 it was '94 and now in 2006 the cutoff would be 1999) and mileage. I had some older, non OBDII cars that got the wand in the tailpipe.

So in 2005, a 1979 year car could legally run o/r pipes.

if the car came with cats it needs to be tested with cats. if a 1979 car had cats and you took them off and took it to get inspected they would fail you.

It doesnt matter anymore, we got rid of it in January and as of now we dont have any emissions check

In Maryland..... (Tread Title) a car also has to be Maryland state inspected before you tag it. Not emissions checked. Historic plate or not, if the car came with cats it needs cats to pass. As for the emissions test, I think its 77 and up have to run through it, and whos car would pass without cats? They also have it to were if you fail and you spend so much money to get it fixed (i think its like 500 dollars) and it doesnt pass the second time they exempt you. Its all a money making gimmic.

In my area south central PA 96 and up cars get hooked up to obdII and if you pass that, meaning no check engine light or other emission problems, you get a gas cap test and a visual to check for cats/exhaust leaks etc. The emission test here cost about $40. 95 and prior cars get just a visual. and if driven under 5k miles/year emission is exempt. Emission and inspection is also done and must pass every year
