hey guys im replacing my 3.8 with a 5.0 and finally got it,but was told that the 3.8 tranny will not work with it since it is computer controlled,now it is a 97 and i did get the 5.0 computer and harness will it work with that 3.8 tranny or not? thnx for any and alllllllllllll help. bb

 

what did the 5.0 come out of? if you got it from an explorer then it should work, this is my theory. I have zero knowledge about this but with proper google searches you should get a more definitive answer. My buddy put a 5.0 into his 4.0 liter ranger. I dont think he switched transmissions out and everything bolted up.

 

thats just it thou ive googled till my fingers are sore, i wrote this same question and others about the swap,and all i can get is 50% of people say yes to one thing and 50% say no..... so thats what i want a definitive answer to these questions is the any place to go to get a step by step guide or answers that u can bank on?i appreciate ur reply thou and keep em coming if it helps get me closer i`ll have the 3.8 out this wknd and i got the 5.0 stuff here and i`ll be honest with ya i have no freakin idea what it came out of lol it was clean under the v/c and he said it was low mileage crown vic is what he said but i have no idea if it is true or not,

 

I guess if nothing else, see if the wiring will fit your tranny. If it does, it might work. If not, you're going to have to get another tranny or wiring harness. AOD's and AODE's aren't hard to find in any case.
