Default Transmision swap

Okay, I'm a new enthusiast. I've never been around cars much, I like cars I just don't know a lot about them, but when my 16th birthday came around this July a 1990 Lx 5.0 Convertible with only 43,000 was gifted to me. Well I've gone mustang crazy since and have learned alot. I saw a letter to an editor in one of my magazines about converting my AOD transmision to a T5, moderndriveline.com sells kits for around 3,000. I was just wondering, if I was able to find a donor car for cheap if I could just rip the parts of it instead of buying the kit.

there are generally cheaper ways to do the swap. while your doing the swap, try to save up and use some upgrade parts that you would use anyway. this is not a complete list of what you need, but its a good starting point.

t5 or tremmec tranny
bell housing/pivot ball
flywheel
clutch/pressure plate/throw out bearing
clutch arm
crossmember
drive shaft
5spd pedals
quadrant
clutch cable
pilot bearing
shifter, might as well buy a short shifter, dont be shy to go used
console surround piece, shifter boot and ****

this is just a starting list, theres a ton of info online about this swap, or ive got some people you can get into contact with about it.

If you know what you are doing its an easy swap... You can get a t5 from a junkyard... buy a convertion kit from summit... and buy all the stuff that you want to up grade...

You might want to look into going to a swap meet in your area (if there are any)
