wider tires
hey guys, I want to get some 315/35/20 for my car. The question is currently I have 20" rims but they are only 9" wide. Can I put 315 on the 9" rim? If not what is the biggest I can go. The tire place is telling me I can only go with a 275/35/20. Can somebody help me on this. I really want to put the 315's on. Also the shelby razors I have do not come in a wider size right now.
Thanks

Yeah thats what they are telling me I wish I would have known that before I got the tire and wheel package Kinda screwed now unless I buy new rims. I don't if and when AR will come up with a wider rim.

I just called AR and was talking to them and he said that shelby will not come out with a 10" rim, but he also stated that he thought that the minimum wheel width for a 315 is a 9" rim. He is going to call me back just to verify though.

Man, I have to be honest, I have 275's on my 9" rims and they already bulge a tiny bit. I am 100% sure that a 315 would be very unsafe on a 9".. Just stick with a 275.. Like I said you MAY be able to get a 285 on it, but Im not sure that I would feel safe with it.

a 305 nitto drag radial will fit on a 9" wheel and bludge but many 03-04 cobra boys do it. For a street tire 285's are gonna be where you wanna stop.
Oh and wrong section this goes in the tire section, moving......

Just looked this up...he is running 315/35 on a 17x9 rim.
Granted these are 17s so I'm not sure how different it would look on 20's or how safe it would be...

That is a quote from his thread. I don't know personally I'm just going by what I read in his thread.

Even though this is a dead thread brought back to life.. Yes, ziggy, those are 9" rims and I still don't know how they got the tires on them.. He told me that it took them quite a bit of time to get them on, so I really don't think there is any way in the world that I would touch it.. Seems very unsafe to me.
285 = max width considering safety on a 9" wheel.

i think it's a bad idea. those tires are totally wrong for the new stangs. the minimum recommended width for that tire is 10.5 inches. also that tire is over an inch and a half taller, so it would make your speedo read REALLY far off. (unless you have a tuner) Not to mention how expensive the tires will be to replace.
