Default 95 Cobra R replica wheels (wider)

Didn't they produce replica 95 R wheels that were wider than the real ones?
The genuine ones are 17x9 (I think) and come equipped with 255s all around. Not sure if those wheels can support wider rubber or not??

I'm looking to go wider in the back. Does anyone know where to get the larger R replica wheels? I think they were 17x10.5. And how wide can you go with tires on a 10.5 wheel, if that's what it is?

thanks

I'm soon to carry these wheels in 17x10.5 I believe.

ETA 1-2 months from my supplier.

is the 285 & possible 295 meant for the 9's or the 10.5's?

And is handling best maintained by keeping the fronts 255 or 245 generally?

shoot i've know people to wrap 315's on a set ot 17x9 wide rim..of course the sidewalls kick out a bit and u prolly would want to do that to the rear.. looks good and is great for drag racing

so going from a 9 to a 10.5 won't make a material performance or appearance difference in a 285 or 295 tire?

If you get a 10.5 rim the tire will not bubble out with a 295 it will look like a normal tire as far as the sidewall. If I had a 10.5 rim I would go with 315 but the wider you go the more $$$ it costs for tires. I like the fact that it bubbles out but some dont so its your taste. If you have traction issues then will be better to get upper and lower control arms in the rear. There are other members here with 10.5 rims, look at their stang so you can see the difference.I think MT#1customer just got his rims 10.5 with 295 take a look at his and my stang so you can see the sidewall.

The 255/40/17 is the perfect fit width wize for the 9" wide wheels but they are not the correct height so speedo would be off if you run them on the rear. They also do not protect the wheels good enough so curb rash is eminent. The 275/40/17 is supposed to have a 9 1/2" wheel and the overhang on the 9 gives it good road rash protection. Likewise with the 315/35/17 on the 10 1/2" wheel. Both of these sizes are the same diameter as the original 245/45/17 that came on 17" GT's so no speedometer correction is needed. The only drawback to going to wider tires is the car will have more of a tendency to dart on badly rutted roads and hydroplaning is worse. That's just the price you have to pay to look cool. LOL

hehheh well image is muy importante

My stock tires are 255/45/17s.

Since it's an R, I don't want to do anything major to the car. But off the bat, a couple of things scream that they suck. (1) the ungodly large gap between the tires and the fenders - i.e. handling, (2) the exhaust is so restrictive, (3) it's a wide ride on not very wide tires. (Oh and air intake...but I think every car should have a K&N-job). Other than these, I'm not willing to touch anything else.

So I already sacked the stock pipes for a Flowmaster american thunder system & track pipe (downpipe or off-road pipe - whichever nomenclature is correct here). I know the car came with adjustable koni's, but I've been thinking I should just go with a nice set of coil-overs b/c that's the setup I used on my Supra and it made a sweet difference.

But for now, I want to figure out the right tire setup. I'd like to keep the original R wheels tucked away in my garage b/c of curb rash, and since they make replica R wheels I'd like to stick to that and slap on some wider rubbers in the rear. We all agree that the fronts shouldn't be larger than 255? And for the rear, I'm not sure if I like the flush look or the bubble-out look. Does the bubble-out tend to appear wider than a flush fit? Is there no grip difference between the two?

If not, then I'll have to go through some pictures to see what I like the best.

and venom, so the pic you posted of your rear tires is considered to be bubble out, right?

I think I like that best then for mustangs. Gives it a good, muscular, raw, american look

Can't find a good pic of the cobra r's but the bullet replicas have the same stance. Here is a good pic of the bullets with 275 front and 315 rear.

Yes my tires are considered the bubble look. The pic of the other black stang with Bullit rims have 315 in back if you put 295s on that same rim 10.5 it would not bubble out. Its the reverse if you put a tire too small on a rim, it will curve inward. That happen to me when I had my old 69 bug. Had real wide rims but tires where not as wide. Like I said before if you are going to 10.5 then get 315s just look at tire prices as this will help you choose as well. If I could get any rim size I would get 10.5 with 315s but I got a deal that I could not refuse on my Roush wheels.

I have 315 Nitto 555r DR's on my 10.5" Cobra R's and LOVE THEM. I get more comments on how wide the wheels are than I do about them being chromies.. They give it that muscle car look and I can do a 4400RPM clutch dump at the track and dont lose a bit of traction! Its great!
