wider tires

hey guys, I want to get some 315/35/20 for my car. The question is currently I have 20" rims but they are only 9" wide. Can I put 315 on the 9" rim? If not what is the biggest I can go. The tire place is telling me I can only go with a 275/35/20. Can somebody help me on this. I really want to put the 315's on. Also the shelby razors I have do not come in a wider size right now.

Thanks

I tihnk 315s would look ****ed up on a 9" wheel..most people put 315s only on 10.5"

Yeah thats what they are telling me I wish I would have known that before I got the tire and wheel package Kinda screwed now unless I buy new rims. I don't if and when AR will come up with a wider rim.
Man this ****ing sucks

wnracing 05-14-2007 01:36 PM

99% sure 275 is as big as you can go. Mayyyyyyyyyyyyybe a 285.

maloney 05-14-2007 01:47 PM

I just called AR and was talking to them and he said that shelby will not come out with a 10" rim, but he also stated that he thought that the minimum wheel width for a 315 is a 9" rim. He is going to call me back just to verify though.

PColav6 05-14-2007 01:57 PM

Idk man it might look like a donut..lol

Maybe 285s

00blkstanggt 05-14-2007 02:01 PM

315 on a 9" rim would be way over doing it. I alwasy hear that a 275 is the best fit on a 9" rim. Nothing more, and nothing less. I wouldn't risk it.

maloney 05-14-2007 02:01 PM

This may stupid question but does anybody have a picture of what this would look like and no pictures of donuts please

Man, I have to be honest, I have 275's on my 9" rims and they already bulge a tiny bit. I am 100% sure that a 315 would be very unsafe on a 9".. Just stick with a 275.. Like I said you MAY be able to get a 285 on it, but Im not sure that I would feel safe with it.

spike_africa 05-14-2007 02:40 PM

a 305 nitto drag radial will fit on a 9" wheel and bludge but many 03-04 cobra boys do it. For a street tire 285's are gonna be where you wanna stop.

Oh and wrong section this goes in the tire section, moving......

maloney 05-15-2007 05:20 AM

thanks guys unless AR come sout with a 10.5 inch rim I am stuck where I am.

yellowstang99 05-15-2007 09:16 PM

I have seen a 315 on a factory 03 cobra rim. Bulges like crazy but it fit...

XxMustang281xX 06-11-2007 11:05 PM

i seen a 315 on a 9 inch wide wheel. a nitto (runs narrower) though, but it was bulging like crazy.

Just looked this up...he is running 315/35 on a 17x9 rim.

Granted these are 17s so I'm not sure how different it would look on 20's or how safe it would be...

From the following thread:

zigzaggthefag321 06-17-2007 07:55 PM

do you know for a fact those are 9'' rims? That bulge looks very similar to my 10.5 inch rims with 315's.

WaterDR 06-17-2007 08:49 PM

I would only go with a 285 on a 9 inch.

"the tires are 255/45/17 up front and 315/35/17sumitomo's, the wheels are 17x9's all the way around... the tires just barely fit, but dont really buldge out as much as i thought they would.."

That is a quote from his thread. I don't know personally I'm just going by what I read in his thread.

wnracing 06-17-2007 11:34 PM

Even though this is a dead thread brought back to life.. Yes, ziggy, those are 9" rims and I still don't know how they got the tires on them.. He told me that it took them quite a bit of time to get them on, so I really don't think there is any way in the world that I would touch it.. Seems very unsafe to me.

285 = max width considering safety on a 9" wheel.

Codiddy 06-18-2007 12:46 AM

i think it's a bad idea. those tires are totally wrong for the new stangs. the minimum recommended width for that tire is 10.5 inches. also that tire is over an inch and a half taller, so it would make your speedo read REALLY far off. (unless you have a tuner) Not to mention how expensive the tires will be to replace.

maloney 06-18-2007 01:13 PM

Thanks for all the info I don't want an usafe car. I will just wait for these to bunr off and put some 285's on the back. Thanks again for all your help and pictures.
