Really, cuz I drive my car damn near every day. Drive to work on really shitty street, drive it 90 minutes to the track, driven it just out side of Toronto, so when exactually am I gonna start replacing shit?

I by no means have a corner carver, just SFC, CC plates, Konis and Ford C springs. When I put the springs in, the rear sat too high, so I cut the dead coil off and left the isolator in. I didn't feel any difference in ride quality from the pre-cut and post-cut rears? Cutting stockers down to lower the car would be bad but I didn't think cutting the dead coil to get an extra 1/2 inch would hurt?

I ended up with a gouged k-member and fugged up mufflers out of it. Came down a steep hill that leveled off all sudden like going kinda too fast. G-forces at the bottom compressed the newly shortened soft supple factory suspension to the point that my k-member touched the ground and the mufflers discovered what impact feels like.

Don't cut your springs. That was coming down a hill kinda fast... not finding a random hidden speed bump (those hurt), railroad tracks, a big ass pothole, etc... I promptly paid for real lowering springs and that solved that problem (cost me a k-member and a cat back too but lesson learned).

My total cut to each spring was 1/2 coil.

Cutting lowering springs is a different story. Sometimes those need a trimmin', not often but it happens. We all recall the H&R lift kit springs that MT had trouble with.

cutting springs makes them stiffer, not softer.

wrong. cutting progressive springs makes them softer (the stiffer coils are at the ends), cutting fixed rate springs just makes them shorter and doesn't change their rate AT ALL. How does it feel to be 100% wrong though? If you're going to post, know the facts.

do you even own a car, you really have no clue what you are talking about. not all springs are prgressive rate. and sutting springs absolutly wil make thme stiffer.

Wow...you're brave. Questions like that only yield one thing... embarrassment for the asker:

School's in, pay attention:

Fixed rate springs have the same spring rate from the first live coil to the last. Removing a coil simply removes the height that it took up. The rate of the spring is still the same, so yeah... you're 1000% wrong. The spring can NOT become stiffer. That's just ignorance. The TOTAL amount of pressure the spring can exert is REDUCED by the product of (spring_rate x length removed). That's not gunna increase rate. So start splainin' Lucy... how's the rate gunna increase?hmmmmmmm.

pwnt! #1

Progressive springs have a higher density of coils toward the end which helps to compound the amount of force required to compress them. This area of increased density of coil reduces the total effective travel of the spring before bind but gives a moderate rate at the beginning of compression and allows the rate to climb as the spring is compressed. Cutting a progressive spring can actually make it lighter rate but NOT higher.

hahahahaha evil doesn't even pick the right fuggin coursework to recommend. hahahahahaha what a maroon. hahahahahahah. I'd probably opt for a mechanical engineering. metallurgy (yeah... there's two L's) would be great if I wanted to create a custom alloy to make a spring from but since there'll be none of that, mechanical engineering should be a better fit. I've had my coursework...have you EVIL?

if you're not going to bother posting your inaccurate nonsense, then I'll have to say haleluja brothers and sisters. My mission is accomplished (unlike some presidents). The lord thy r3d has delivered you from tardo and will begin the trip to temptation shortly. Please relax and enjoy some tea-cakes and lemon soaked paper napkins.

I think this subject has gotten sufficiently far from cpthowdy's question that we can lock em' up. Evil = t3h l0s3.
