dont do it. a set of decent lowering springs is not very expensive at all.
When you cut springs you are compromising their design, thus compromising your ride quality and handling.

Cuttign the dead coil won't do much as far as lowering.

OMG....don't cut your springs! I cut mine and as you can see in the vid it ruined my handling http://videos.streetfire.net/video/6...6a009ef429.htm

Don't do it... you'll bottom your car and trash your k-member. Just spend the damned money or don't do it at all. It's not worth wrecking your car over.
I've cut stock springs it's a profoundly BAD idea.

yea never cut ur springs unless u wanna be known as a ricer. or an idiot.
#7
I've cut sprigs on fox 4 cylinder and Eibach drag srping with no ill effects, but i don't run the twisties.
#8
Cutting the springs is a bad/rice move.

whats good for a drag aint real good for anything else.

Alright when you start driving your 13 second car around the town for a few months and have to start replacing ****, I'll be there saying "told you so"
#12
#13
It's obvious none of you have ever cut springs.

You just want to lower the car right?
I'd go with some H&R SS's.

Acutally thinking about it, i would like to do something like coil overs more, but how expensive are they?? and if i went H&R SS wouldn't i need cc plates??
#27
you wouldn't need CC's..but that won't hurt.
Really just ask zigg..he's probably the only one here with more money invested into suspension then anything else. He's got all that shayit.

You can totally cut the dead spring off the top of a ford mustangs coil spring. It does nothing to the ride and doesnt change the spring rate at all. Its called a "dead coil" for a reason. However it wont handle any better and its just gonna sit lower. Might as well just get used springs, thats what i did.

actaully R3dn3ck has more $$ in suspension than I do...plus he's WAY better at explaining that stuff too.

I've had all the experiences you're likely to encounter. I've cut springs (stupid stupid stupid move = major regret), I've use steeda, eibach, H&R and hypercoil springs on my cars, I've had stock, IRS, TA/PHB type rears on them. I think I have the right to say I have more experience in matters of suspension than most of you. After 14K dollars invested to finally arrive with a $8K suspension I've learned a thing or two. No offense.
Evil Stang... you're kinda new to be making with the STFU's... so here's one right back at you. What works for a 10 second drag car is bad for a street car's handling and braking. Making fast times on a track is great if you only drive 1/4 mile to work and there's no lights, potholes, other cars or speed laws.
