You can substitute the DIY intercooler kit for the discharge pipe kit. The discharge pipe kit only includes the pipe, couplers, clamps, and a BPV. A new bosch bypass valve kit costs about $75. However...IF you decide to use the Intercooler kit, you WILL need a big bypass valve. You can run the car with a small bosch BPV, but you will get compressor surge. The compressor surge is hard on the blower's impeller. At lower boost levels like 8-10 psi it should not directly effect the impeller wheel, but over an extended amount of time it will. A Vortech maxflow BPV sells for $230 brand new from that site. So in the end if you are going with an intercooler, it is worthless to buy the discharge tube kit..Check out the "accessories" section of that site and check out the selection of bypass valves they offer.....

what was your psi loss? did it fit pretty well? did you have to cut the inner fender?

Well I am having a little trouble due to the fact that im still using the bosch BPV. I was seeing 9psi before, but now Ive seen a max of 6psi. Theres the possibility that im actually leaking some boost through the plastic bypass valve. SO I would expect a 2psi loss with a big intercooler like that. Definately DID have to cut a small hole on the passengers side inner fender so the pipe would pass from the I/C to the throttle body. Heres the link to pics of my install.....https://mustangboards.com/power-adde...completed.html

So close.. I have a thousand dollars I've saved up from work... I'd kill for that supercharger. What would insurance do? Make you pay a billion dollars a month more? I'm seriously considering this kit.

I know this is a very old thread, but what programmers would work for vortech supercharger application? What is involved? Would you need to upload a custom tune or could you do it yourself?

An SCT tuner would work. However you'd have to get it dyno-tuned. No way around it. You can run a stock supercharger tune but it'll run real rich/lean I'm sure.

You'd need to find a shop reputable enough to trust them with pretty much your whole motor.

As for other parts you'd need injectors, a MAF, a new fuel pump and the tune of course. Plus all the stuff in the first post.

Your gonna need a dyno tune for sure. You can get a mail order tune, but with a supercharger it is not worth it. Find a local SCT or Diablo dealer and get the car tuned. It will make more power and be safer that way.

im glad someone stumbled upon this thread and bumped it otherwise i might not have found it. can anyone post pics of a diy kit?

i puttin a 5.4 in my 96 cobra and it would be even sicker with a supercharger. im gonna want to go intercooled so does it matter what head unit i get? dont the non intercooled head units face the passenger side and the intercooled head unit face the driver side im just a bit confused on this, thanks

The DIY kit will look just like a full kit you buy. If you can find a head unit for a reasonable price then the rest of the stuff is cake. Superchargersonline has everything you need to piece things together. I believe if you are going with an intercooler, the head unit has to be reclocked and therefore it will face down to run the intercooler. Any of the head units for a 96-04 mustang should work, you'll just need the correct bracket.

The head unit should look like this
