$1327 00-04 GT Vortech Kit anyone can do
This is to show everyone that it doesnt take a ton of money to have a nice S/C on their mustang. Even if you dont have an 00-04 you can still get it done just as cheap. I have just quoted prices for what I did with my car. Search through http://www.superchargersonline.com and you can find prices for different makes and models. I do not work for them but they just have good service and they helped me build my kit.
This is a list of parts youll need to buy. Tube Tube Nut Male Connector Vortech Bracket Assembly: $289 Vortech Discharge Assembly: $189 Vortech Air Intake Assembly: $204 Vortech Oil Feed Assembly: $22 Vortech Oil Drain Assembly: $23 Total: $727 before tax/shipping That is cost for EVERY single item you need to put a Vortech S, SQ, or T trim on your 2000-2004 Mustang GT. Only thing left to buy is the head unit. They are fairly easy to find if you search Ebay, SVTperformance.com, or Corral.net . A used S-trim sells between $400-800 depending on assumed mileage and condition. I bought mine for $700 with discharge pipe and intake. If you want a new head unit they cost $1849 for a brand new satin V-1 s-trim. A used head unit WILL be alot cheaper and perform just as well. Even if the unit needs a rebuild, the cost is about $350 from vortech or you can find some performance shops that can do it for around $100. Mine was in great condition when I picked it up from a guy on Ebay. Even bieng a 6 year old head unit it had no shaft play and seems to be in perfect condition. If you find a head unit for $600, add the cost of the hardware ($727) and this comes out to $1327 for a COMPLETE vortech s-trim setup every part new but the head unit and fuel injectors. Even if you paid say $800 it would just come out to $1527 before tax and shipping. Install takes a full days work to get it done right. Anyone with general knowledge of removing and installing bolts on the front of the timing cover, removing the belt, using a pipe tap, and swapping non-pressed pullies can perform this install. Heres the install manual: http://www.vortecheng.com/pdf/manuals/4FH4FL218im.pdf The result is between 350-370whp/ 360-390wtq on 8psi non intercooled. Most run between 13.20s@109 - 12.40s @112 in the 1/4 on street tires depending upon skill. Enjoy the boost!:D:turbo: |
Tony @ SuperchargersOnline is a good dude.

While this is a great option, you are still missing injectors, fuel pump, maf and a tune. Granted, I had less then $1,500 in my kit TOTAL when I was done, but I got a great deal on a lot of the parts up front.

Although you could buy a $500 nitrous kit and get the same power and still run mid-12's. :salook: Alot cheaper... |
With tons more tourqe. I know you can get a vortec setup going on the cheap, thats whats so great about those kits is the vast majority of parts and peice you can find for them.

Great post Jeradan.
As someone who has had both nitrous AND a blower on the same car, blowers are much better. However, if you are a serious drag racer, I think nitrous is very well suited. |
Very good information, that saves $1000 off the cost of a comparable tuner kit.
Good to know. As a side argument, if you assume a Supercharger kit costs $2200, and a Nitrous kit costs $1000 (lots of add ons) - $1200 / $30 (per fill) = 40 bottles before you match the cost - thats almost a whole year @ a bottle a week. |
For the other parts (assuming 4.6L 2v):
90mm Lightning MAF: $135 42lbs/hr Ford Racing Fuel Injectors: $475 Vortech 255lph Fuel Pump: $194 Diabosport/SCT Tuner: $399 That's another $1200. That's brand new prices. You could find parts for cheaper. A quick look at some other sites and found injectors for $375. |
Lightning MAF's can be found at buyfordracing.com for 79 bucks brand new. Also, dont use a 255 fuel pump, use a Focus or Ford GT pump instead.
AND PAY VERY GOOD MONEY FOR YOUR TUNE! |
I got my lightning MAF brand new for $75 and found the injectors used for $100.

2 Questions...
1) Will that mounting kit you show fit on a 96-98 or not? I'm having issues finding a kit for 96-98GT's on the site besides http://www.superchargersonline.com/p...er=V4FH100-002 2) Is this for mounting Reverse rotation or standard and straight or curved discharge? I'd assume straight discharge (no intercooler) but I'm not sure. |

Adding an A/A intercooler would cost $250-400 DIY or Paxton sells a kit for $1300 |
Are all the headunits the same as far as matching them to a car? Basically you just need to get the bracket that fits your year and car and you can use any Vortech head unit. Is this correct?

any suggestions where to order the maf bracket w/ filter?
|
superchargersonline.com has all the parts. If your using a lightning MAF then youll need to order the bracket specific to that one....heres the link for the bracket....http://www.superchargersonline.com/p...er=V4FR110-050
Just call them to find the right sized filter. Its not listed on the site.... |
You do not need the MAF bracket if you're using a p/p...

Whats the most boost you can run with an s-trim charger? With intercooling of course in mind. Also any suggestions for a do it yourself way to intercool the charger? I'm gonna have to intercool it so knowing that would it not be such a good idea for a powerpipe?

Thats the easiest way and its just $299...be sure to mount it BEHIND the bumper support. Thats the best way. I have mine mounted inside the bumper support but I will end up moving it sometime. Its hella hard to get the pipes routed around the foglights....I am running a powerpipe and intercooler, theres no reason not to.... |
ok so if you get the do it yourself intercooler do you still need to purchase the discharge assembly for the vortech charger? Or could you save money and buy the little things it might need and if so do you know where and what specific parts I would need? Or would I just still be better off purchaseing the discharge package? Thanks..

You COULD run it without one but the bracket keeps everything supported by attatching to the fender by 2 bolts. Any other way and you have the powerpipe moving around and possibly slipping off the supercharger right where the rubber elbow meets the impeller....

The most boost people normally see on stock heads/cams/and exhaust is 17psi. If you get ported heads, cams, and longtubes it will lower that amount by a bit. The best DIY kit is found here----->http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWDVW

I might just pick one up. |
