Anyone intrested in 5.4L swaps, in here. Need you to opine.

just as it sits it's a decent if imperfect intake. I'd use it if the price was right. I'd probably still have some runner horns TIG'd into it and make sure it's fully ported in the right places. Still.. give it the right cam and that will turn out impressive hp numbers. Tq will suffer a bit but not enough to matter.

Ok
So my first post was made before I read all 150 some odd pages.
I now think the 3v 4.6 or 5.4l swap sounds the best.
So what parts are needed for the 3v swap? Heads obviously, cams, intake if i go 5.4, or adapt a 4.6 with the adapter from RR. I know there are other things that are in the past pages and ill search for those in the near future, but what im looking for is someone who has done this swap and knows what else i need to watch out for?
Also, can i use any 5.4 block?
Im sure ill have more questions in the near future, and I thank everyone for their help before I even get started.
Wouldnt mind 400/400 rwtq out of a 5.4l N/A here in Fresno.
Shock those ls1 guys for sure

3v will rock! you'll need heads, cams, adjustable cam gears, high lift valvesprings and new retainers, 3v 4.6L intake, front/timing cover, intake adapter plates, logan motorsports TB adapter, dual bore TB, and a set of 36lb/hr injectors. That things capable of some serious power with the right cam.
You can use any 5.4 block from a 2v or 4v engine. 3v motors have a different mount setup which works great in 05+ stangs but not 96-04.
Reichard makes 3v adapter plates. I'd bet others will have them out soon too.

Right on! I saw a 2000 gt with a 4.6 3v in it with like 350 rwhp. That thing was nasty! If i can get this to work in my car that would rock. Ill have to see if Tim @ MHP is working on some ported heads and find a decent cam for a 3 valve. This wont be for a bit yet because I have to buy all the parts, but I would love a high hp N/A stang.

hmmm, makes me rethink the 5.4 3v
So, what do you think the stock 5.4 3v with the mustang intake would make?? One more question, would it fit the same "valve cover wise" as the 2v? thanks

The 3v makes sense. Its a little more pricey than the 2v swap, but it makes more power and doesnt require any special rewiring or anything like that.
Have a mentioned the power? The new motor in our Gt's has me thinking.
Even if I were to do a 4.6-4.6 the power potential would be crzy with heads and cams...
Ill let you all in on more info as I get it.

I can not find an 8bolt flexplate to work with my 4R70W transmission anyone have any ideas or know where I can find one?!?
Found a complete 5.4 local and it moved the whole project up since the only parts I was going to have to get were the little bolts and pieces.

that's a fact. nothing short of a 4v is going to even approach the flow potential of 3v's. But... I'll stick with my 2v just the same.

question...
FRPP offers a 3v 5.4l whipple kit. its the 3.3l whipple twin screw. it should fit straight onto a 3v 5.4l, and it uses the "round" style throttle body. and comes with the hardware for the throttle assymply.
if someone were to do a 3v 5.4l swap into a pre 05 car, could this not be a very feasible power adder / intake solution.
would take some custom work to get it all working right though, but one hell of a finished product.
i'll have to do a quick search, but i believe the 3v 5.4l Kenne Bell blowers have a similer set-up. may even work better, as i believe the intake for the blower sits on the passenger side on the KB.

stock 5.4L truck motors have the auto 8 bolt flywheel that will work. just get a stock one.

now just out of curiosity, which flows better the 3v head or the 4v head? i'm just wondering b/c the 3v mustangs make more horses and torque than the 4v ones. so whats the deal? if the 4v flows better... then by how much? thnks.

'b' heads out flow 'c' heads but lose torque from 222cc intake ports.
typical 'c' 99-01 heads flow 240ish intake. exhaust isn't as important.
2003-2004 heads flow better on the exhaust.
3v heads flow 235ish intake. 170 exhaust.
full ported 2003-2004 heads flow 315cfm / 240 exhaust
3v flow 305 in / 205 exhaust with larger valves.
vct only works with smaller cams. the phasers cannot handle big springs. the break apart. so big power and cams use solid cam gears.
