Unhappy Compression?

ok first off i am 16 years old and need to learn the basics...I talked to Kenne Bell about their supercharger. They told me that if I wanted to run 11-15psi on pump gas I would not only need to replace the pistons and rods (that I knew) but that I would need to set the compression at 8:1 or 8.5:1...can someone please give me the rundown on how I do that and what that exactly does...Thanks alot for your help...

You start by measuring the combustion chamber capacity in cubic centimeters(cc's).Then you take the engine size.4600 cc's.Divide by number of cylinders. 8.=575 cc's.Divide by the combustion chamber volume,we'll use 70.9 cc's and you get 8.1-1 compression ratio. When you are choosing the heads that you will use, take chamber volume into account. This can be adjusted by using pistons with more or less dish in their "head" surface. This will give you "static"compression ratio. When the engine is running,"dynamic"compression is what counts. This is what boost and cam timing change.Even on a Normally Aspirated engine,N/A,dynamic compression changes with engine rpm. So,if you start out with, say 10-1,static compression, you could end up with 12 or 13-1 dynamic compression,or more. This can cause trouble.(Ventilated engine blocks). When you get to doing this project, discuss the uses for your engine with the super charger or turbo suppliers, the head builders, and the engine block people.Make sure they all know what the others are wanting to do.Hope this clears up any questions, but more than likely will cause more.

You could easily run a stock 4.6 with 9psi....with an intercoooler on pump gas. I assume your talking about a 2V. Beyond that is a crapshoot. You spend the money for a rebuild and a KB and your worried about pump gas? Thats some funny stuff there.

**** you can run 8 psi without a intercooler and be fine with a tune. As for the pistons if you are asking how would you go about chaning them. you have to take the motor out pull the heads intake etc... and dropthe pan take the rod caps off push the pistons and connectiong rods out and replace with the ones you are using. IS this easy? no if you have never done this dont even try unless you have time ot make sure everything is correct.
