Unhappy when cold compression low, Normal?

Hi there, i kinda need some advise here.

My 00 Stang GT, i dont remeber him doing that, but i have 1 month and some days with him. just bought it, anyway.

when the motor is completly cold, lets say it has been parked all night, and you get in @ the morning... I start the car and ovbiusly the TEMP is all the way down to cold, but the OIL PRESSURE is all the way DOWN too???

but as soon as the motor gets warmed, the OIL COMPRESSION/PRESSURE jumps to a little more than the half of the gauge (the normal potition)

Is it normal this behavior? or should i worry??

Any info regarding this issue will be very well appriciated =)

The oil pressure will be zero untill the engine pressurizes the oil galleries that feed the bearings.Ford reccomends that you run 5w20 oil to speed this process.I suspect smaller diameter oil passages to be the reason for this.If it takes more than a second for the oil pressure guage to wake up it could be the filter is allowing the oil to drain back into the pan while it's shut down overnite. You can pre-lube the engine by holding the gas pedal all the way to the floor and cranking the engine untill oil pressure shows up on the guage. This is OK to do occasionally, when doing oil changes or the car has set for a long time(weeks). If you do this every day your starter will die prematurely.I use Mobile 1 0w20 and a Purolator Pure one filter and don't have any oil problems even in sub freezing temps.Stay away from cheap, crappy oil filters. There is a website that tested oil filters from many makers and Purolator came in near the top but I can't find it now.Anybody?

Awsome!!

Yah must be that, about 2-3 weeks ago, i changed the oil, bought Syntetic Quaker State, cant remember the exact "model" but they highly recommended it. The oil filter was changed too, but can remember the brand...

But it takes quite alot for the oil pressure gauge to wake up, at least around 2-4 minutes... which in that time, i dont accelerate him at all, i just go in 1st real slow some blocks untill i reach the avenue...

So until the engine pressurizes the oil galleries that feed the bearings, which take 2-4 minutes... is the motor in risk on any way? like not having enought oil to protect itself... should i worry?

Ill try to find that filter brand here, (do they sell it at ford serivce)?? Im hoping that with this change the gauge can wake up like it did b4, almost instantly after you start it.

You can pre-lube the engine by holding the gas pedal all the way to the floor and cranking the engine untill oil pressure shows up on the guage
What do you mean by "cranking", like insterting the key to one potition before Start??

Thanx for the info bro, really appriciate it!

Cranking the engine means spinning the crankshaft with the starter. The sending unit could be hanging up internally and not sending a signal to the guage. You might want to get another sending unit so you will know for sure.Running the engine 2-4 minutes without oil pressure will eventually destroy it.Once damage is done,it won't just fix itelf.Purolator oil filters are available at Advance auto parts and other fine stores everywhere.

hmmm still having the same problem.

yesterday i went to the ford service to buy the oil filter, the "original", and replaced the Gonher filter it had....

this morning, after all night, again, started it and the same.... oil needle all the way down.... had to wait 5 minutes for it to wake up.

Could the the oil be the problem then??? due to exessive thickness?? It has Quaker State 5w50 Synthetic

I know now that the 00 stang requires 15w40 .... could that be the problem? if so.. can i still use a Synthetic 15w40? i dont quite like the normal oil that ford recommends.....

Thanx in advance!

As far as I know 5w30 is the heaviest oil Ford recomends in any of the 4.6 engines, but I said as far as I know,I could be wrong.Heavier oil takes longer to fill empty oil passages.I think (hope) your trouble is a bad sending unit because after 2-4 mins.of running without oil pressure the lifters should bleed off and you would get an awfull amount of clatter from the top of your engine. Then as the pressure came back the noise would go away.
