Default Engine Swap???

Ok heres the dilema.. If my V6 Craps out and I go to put in a 5.0 is this all i would have to do parts wise. I know id have to change some motor mounts and maybe a new suspension.

1. Get a 5.0 and tranny, But would i have to get a new rear end?????

No body work needed, I don't knwo where that came from...

Hope you don't have smog or any kind of inspection though since it is illegal to have an engine older then the car it is in...

Oh and no you don't HAVE to swap rear ends. You might not even have to swap trannies or driveshafts.

Don't ask questions like this here. Go somewhere with a bit more V6 tech. Try v6power.net.

If he has a 94, he can use a 5.0 as they came in mustangs through 95... he just needs a 94 or newer 5.0, so he'd probably want to look in trucks and exploders.

I think you'd need a whole new k-member for the motor mounts.

You realize ford, in this case, uses the same 4r70w (auto) and t5/t45 (stick) for both V8's and V6's. There is no difference sorry to break that one to you.

And a cross member is not body work. Atleast I don't classify it as.

wow way to add to the forums lol j/k.

For the swap you will need engine, ecu, wiring harness for v8,crossmember the v8 has a double hump for4 the dual exhuast.

The tranny should bolt up to it as the 3.8 amd 5.0 5.8l have the same bolt pattern if i remember correctly. There fore the driveline can stacy stock. granted any kinda power made will break those stock peices fast that tranny and rear end are not very strong.

its basicly a motor swap and a harness swap with alot of little things that need to be done alsol. This is of course if you keep it efi or you can go carb. which would be easier. but i think its better to go EFI.

LOL it read a bit harsher then I would like it too LOL. It's just that most of the V6 questions get answered by V8 guys who sometimes think what's good or needed for the 4.6 is the same for the 3.8. Well that's not the case.

But yea sorry didn't mean to be so harsh LOL

Yeah, the other option is a Super six Package which is basically rebuilding your current engine, but that being said you'd need a bigger rear. I don't need to worry about the exhaust Mine comes up out front...I'm thinking about gettin the Mac LT set w/ the catted H-pipe going into my spintech side exhaust..I think that would sound nice, and then a new cam and built engine will give it a really nice sound...I've heard atleast 3 V6's with poweradders and build motors sound Pretty Damn Close to a GT if not better...

You are better off buying a GT and selling the V6 in that case. It sounds like an easy job bbut I assure you that you are into a lot of work.

yeah unless you find a wrecked GT 2003 or 2004 for REALLY cheap, or better yet a wrecked Mach 1/Cobra....

Yes finding a doner car would be your only hope of getting out of this without being raped by the cost.

It is possible, and with the right attitude not that hard. The hardest part would be the price. If you can find a donar car or maybe a motor really cheap(with electronics) do it. If not, it would be easier to sell your car and buy a V8 car.

I second that. I once looked into doing a swap myself, its just not worth it. We're talking wiring/motor/tranny/rear end, also you would need a tubular k-member or k-member from a 94-95GT to put the 302. It would be better off to sell the v6 and get a gt or cobra.

Exactly what Knife said. I have also looked into doing the 5.0 swap and found that it was more of a hassle than need be. I would just save money by buying a V8.
