Default cutting coils

Are there any negative side effects to cutting the stock coils for a temporary home made drop. How much would I cut off for a 1.5" drop?

LOL, I hope you are kidding! Not only will you royally screw up your vehicles handling but you make the car dangerous because there is no base to your springs. You will have abnormal tire wear, and get bad gas mileage out of it. You will also cause problems for your tie rods, shocks, struts, bases, and god knows what else.

Good luck with cutting your springs...
I would also like to add you have springs, not a coilover setup.

heating the springs make them weaker and will also ruin your handling. it will give that bouncing that imports love to have due to cutting and heating springs. Dont be cheap get a set of drop springs you can find them used for as low as 50bucks i have seen on ebay.

Never use a blow torch to shrink your springs...
