5.0 Swap

5.0 Swap
Hey guys
I know this question has been asked and answered somewhere on these forums. I have been through them and couldnt find a straight answer. So here goes
I have a 95 V6 and looking to swap in the 5.0
What do I need besides suspension and 8.8 rear end?
What do I need to just get the motor in and running?
I will have the brakes and everything done. I just need the info on getting the motor in. What are the benefits of fuel injected over carb?

It is also a manual. I will also have rubber bushings done.
Is there an easier motor to swap in?
I am willing to just swap in a 99+ V6 but what all do I need?
Which swap is cheaper and more efficient?
Personallly I would like to swap the V6 just for the gas mileage bc I commute and im not trying to race
Just want that extra step

If mileage is a high priority then I'd stick with the V6. You'll have to change alot to go with the 5.0 and unless you can do alot of the work yourself, it will be very expensive. But if you do decide to go with the 5.0, your best bet (cheaper) would be to find a wrecked 94-95 GT, and swap everything over.

Depends on what you want. If you want to go faster do the v8 swap. If you just want a bit more up and go the split port swap is a nice way to go to. Though I have done a split port swap into a 94 and unless your a hardcore v6 guy like him I would do a v8.

I agree with knife13. I was going to do this very thing to my car and within the last few weeks (especially since I posted here) I have had major re-thoughts of attempting it. I have a 2003 and while I did my usual extensive foot work, I just don't think the idea is a great benefit in the end.
For what the car will produce after the swap the money spent, time invested and overall conversions and hunting for certain parts needed it just doesn't make since and this is coming from a guy that has been working on cars for a long time.
I know it can be done but to do it right I think it would be more of a hassle than what most would go through. A few ideas that I had floated around was to put either a 2v or 4v in it but really there again because there are a lot of parts that have to be swapped and it has been proven to be done with mimimal cost it really has a lot of areas that will cost and be very time intensive.
Here is my suggestion, use what you got. After a few guys on this site (they didn't steer or tell me not to but rather helped with the thought process) I have decided to stick with the 6. I have a new plan that involves a 4.3 stroker.

im sort of feeling what you are saying (rumblin 6)
the last thing i want to do is invest hella time in this and then not be happy in the end
is the v6 swap a lot of parts?
if it is i will just sell and save to get a gt
thing w me is insurance. i am 19. i did my research w my insurance company and asked the underwriters if i dropped in a bigger motor would it affect anything and they said no. reason being if something goes wrong they are only giving me book value which is not ****.
i will just live if it is hella money and TIME involved in the v6 swap
I want to do it right so i dont want to skip steps

is the 6 swap a lot of parts

The swap is not that bad at all and can be done in a few days. Its not a weekend project and would take two people around 4-6 days of working on the car. I was not nearly as good with cars as I am now and it took us 3 weekends to get it in and all wired up and install a Procharger and full exhaust on the car. Figure two weekend for just the motor swap and the wiring and other mods that have to be done to do a 99-04 split port v6 motor in the 94-98 v6s.

Split port swap with some boost will make great power and be fun. The swap is not bad at all just a few problems with the swap, but nothing major. I mean I did it during the school year with 3 buddies (not my car) and we powered it out in my two car garage with no special tools. Just an engine hoist and some man power and some brains.

IMHO... If your engine isn't blown, on it's last leg or you just have the money to blow I'd just forget the whole thing.. Most guys that do the split-port deal want to build V6 monsters, I'm assuming that Dustin is talking about Teal Beast and that car was pretty well built out the ***. Didn't he end up doing a TT setup? Haven't seen or heard anything from him in ages, but that thing was a monster.
Unless you fall into one of the categories listed above, save your money, save it some more, and more.. Until you can afford a GT or afford to truly mod your car the way that YOU want to. Make sure whatever you do, you feel like it was worth it in the end. JM2C.

The easiest swap I've ever done is a '94-'95 V6 to V8 swap. Just need the engine with it's harness connected to it and the vacuum and electrical harness that runs into the passenger fenderwell as you will have to add the vacuum reservoirs located in there. This is why having a donor car is the easiest way to go. The throttle and cruise control cables may also have to be changed. It's been a long while since I've done one. The only difference in the suspension is the rear end itself. The brakes are the same on the V6 and the GT as well as the K member. You'll also need the instument cluster from the GT since the tach from the V6 will not read correctly and of course a V8 computer. I almost forgot the fuel lines that connect between the frame rail lines and the fuel rail itself.

Yeah Teal Beasts car had a Procharger then he went to a twin turbo setup with a built Gforce T45 and built 8.8 in his car. He is actully looking to sell the motor/tranny and go with a 4v now because he wants to play with something new.

go splitport or save for a GT IMO.
A splitports stock internals can handle up to 350rwhp with good engine health and a good tune. So there is room to grow.
If you want the v8 though, just save for one and there is no hassle other than the purchase.
