Default The old CAI question!

Okay, so its christmas, i have my choice of either a chin spoiler, CAI, or wheel spacers. All are pretty awesome, but im thinking CAI is the most beneficial. I had an old chevrolet sport 1500 and when i flipped the breather over to where it stuck out it would make this nice bellowing sound or whatever, it was a 5.7 v8, im in a 3.8, riding in my friends gt makes me angry becuz his car like vibrates with the exhaust, and my truck did that with the breather flipped. Im not worried about HP's in my car, just like if the sound will help out and maybe even make it vibrate. OR overall just somebody pick the thing you all think i should get. Thanks.

CAI doesnt do ****...especially on a v6...buy a drop in K&N and call it a day...spend your money on the other stuff you mentioned.

CAI IS STUPID!!!!!!

Chin spoiler adds more hp then a CAI and looks better imo

haha, i like that about the chin spoiler. ima thinkin the cai will give me a throaty sound where it sticks out. i already got a k&n on it, im not worried bout hp either. lol seems like nobody likes spacers.

b/c its spacers on a v6.. you dont need spaces just get wider tires dont fake it...

ok, i have one of those cai kits from americanmuscle on my v6 and it DEFINATELY does make a slightly deeper tone comming out of the back. but it will DEFINATELY not give u a throaty or garggly tone with stock exhaust, i don't know about a flowmaster exhaust, i would guess it is the muffler that makes the throaty sound and not the intake. and let me say this hopefully without pissing anyone off but i really wish people would quit saying that it will make no difference in a 6 cyl. mustang. i had a K&N filter and snorkal removed and i ran across one on craigslist for about half price and bought it. i can tell a slightly lower tone and i can tell a slightly better response when i press the gas so it does do something just not a whole lot. i think they look very nice under the hood so that is something also. 1-3 horsepower might be nothing to some and something to others. i think someone like me who does not have hundreds of dollars to spend on upgrades at one time a cai is a nice little something to give ur car,so i would go with the cai over the other two, chin spoiler would definately look good on your car after that.......just my two pennies

It's not that they are telling you lies, it's been something that numerous past or present v6 owners will tell you, I had a CAI and exhaust on my v6 stang and didn't notice any hp difference from doing either. The only real benefit was that the exhaust actually gave the car some tone so it sounded good, the intake made the engine bay look good but that is about it.

I would say go for the chin spoiler or wheel spacers.
The chin spoiler would add to your whole mach 1 look, and the wheel spacers would push your rear rims out so that they actually sit further out then the front wheels(stupid ford design!)

I noticed an power increase when i added the exhaust...... I say he should just get a drop in Air filter. Thats what i did and it works rather well improved gas millage. Should also get the Chin spoiler and grille delete.

I will certainly agree with gas mileage bump. From doing both I probably saw a ~3mpg increase on highway. In town wasn't too affected for me, since I was always stopping/going from lights and never really get above 35.

yeah ur not going to feel a 1 or 2 horsepower difference even if u do get it, and im not calling anyone a liar, i am simply saying that people shouldn't say that it is going to do absolutely nothing because it does do something. it is still a mod that some people love to do for whatever reason. whether it's just plain looks or that deeper tone u get.

yeah, the cirlce one was your carb engine i would guess, u just unscrew the top and flip it over then bolt it back down. that created a small 360 degree opening all the way around the filter housing which would have been on top of the carburator. then the top that u flipped over still sealed around the top of the filter so that all the air going into the carb was still filtered. i got an old 84 gmc vandura that i am waiting for the beginning of the year so i can get it inspected without emissions it's been sitting in my drive for a while because it would not pass, but after the first of the year it will be old enough to not have it required. it's got the circle filter in the ufo shaped housing on top of the carb

You clearly have never seen it done. It makes it look nicer and gives it a wider rear stance.

i ordered the CAI. Im just wantin the sound from the engine bay, gettin tired of only hearin whats behind me haha! LOL to me MPG and HP ups are extras! so dont matter if it helps or not. and i decided against the spacers becuz it would make my posi catch more so id slide more around curves, where as i will spin both tires instead of one wheeling it. but ill get those later.

Spacers are not going to make you "catch posi" more often. Your car does not even have a Tlok (ford name for their posi unit) from the factory.

well it was a figure, becuz when i had 20's on my car it wouldnt do a donut, it would one wheel peel, but with my machs the lower centered gravity allows it to keep both wheels on the ground, and by making a left turn it spins the right wheel as always, and then the other side doesnt pick up and i can do a donut. ive noticed when it snows i catch posi too. thats how the whole car back end moves.
