Default split port vs new engine

how hard is it to replace a 1998 3.8 with a 1999 3.8 and besides the engine and wiring harness what else is needed forget about cost of work in both cases I can get it done free.

the split port kit from SSMS is $800 or I can get a 1999+ 3.8 for $600 with about 60,000 miles on it off ebay

honestly if your going to upgrade to a 99+ it would be better worth it to do the 4.2L F150 motor. same block as the 3.8L so it will drop right in with a 4.2L flywheel, maybe some other small stuff.

it won't be any harder than a 3.8L swap.

should be all that used the 4.2L motor which started in 99. don't know when it ended. 4.2L i saw went back to 1997, but i think the splitport came in in 1999 or 2000.

and yes it would fit into an 01. they are the same block as the 3.8L, it is just bored alittle more.

When we did the swaps on my friends car he found the 00 motor with 39k miles for $460 shipped here to us. It even had the full engine harness and accessories.

Look around there are lots of junkyards etc.. with perfectly good motors from cars that were crashed.
