Low idle, engine trouble.

Low idle, engine trouble.
To begin this is a 2006 V6 Auto and the problem just started a week ago (out of nowhere). When I come to a stop the idle drops to 500 RPM and sometimes the engine will die. It doesn't always do this. Some days it will idle at 700-750 and run fine. Other days, like today, I was going about 45 mph took my foot off the gas and the RPM dropped to 500. When I go to engage the accelerator nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then the transmission catches (much like when you come to a rolling stop and try to move forward in 2nd gear instead of 1st). At the next stop the car completely died and I could not start it in Park... I had to keep it in neutral, start it, and rev the engine to keep it from dying. Does anybody have any ideas of what the problem could be?

It started happening the day after I changed the oil from regular to synthetic, don't know if that matters at all. Also, I reset the ECU last night which seemed like it helped at first, but the engine died at a stop on the way from work today.

Your idle is controlled by the computer, which must be reset if there are any disruptions in the power supply. It must also be reset if there are any modifications to the MAF, requiring in some cases, a computer tune. Since you do not mention changing the MAF, and assuming the MAF meter is working correctly, the procedure to reset the idle is simple. Start the vehicle and allow it to warm up to normal operating temperature. Then turn on the air conditioner and allow it to run for at least one minute. To complete the procedure, drive the vehicle for at least ten miles. This will allow the computer to adjust the idle to its proper setting.
If this does not solve your problem, let me know.

I just love it when people suggest running to a programmer or tuner to solve a simple problem. The factory reset for the idle is simple, and even with an SCT programmer (the X3 is now the SF3 by the way), you will STILL need to have the MAF adjust the PCM to the proper air/fuel mixture. Unless he has added an aftermarket CAI such as C&L or Steeda, he won't need the programmer to fix an idle problem. Now, stop pretending you know what you're talking about and just stick to what you know.....operating the stereo.

Now, just to clarify, I know nothing about cars. The only thing I know is how do drive the ever living **** out of mine... oh, and put gas in it. The hell with the stereo. Who needs a stereo when you've got a great sounding exhaust?
Bolero, they should fix it if it is still under warranty. Just take it to the stealership and let them deal with it.

Doyle... you're new. Best to watch the mouth a little and build up some credit here before you go popping off at people. You may or may not know a damned thing, that has yet to be determined. What has been determined is that you're on thin ice within your first 3 posts. Be cool or be the new whipping boy. Your option.

yea i found his response to be assinine, cocky and out of nowhere so i didn't bother responding. but yea, a few points...it was just an option, much like every other person that posted in efforts to help this guy out, i looked at it as this fella wants to adjust his idle, so why not raise it a bit? which to my knowledge, ya can't do w/out a tuner. second, be a lil more subtle, no sense in going full bore assault on someone for giving his 2cents. third, chiiillllll!
