Default CAI questions before purchase

I have a 1998 v6 w/ flowmaster 50 series (highley reccommended ) and I was thinking about buying the intake from AM. I was just wondering if there really is any better throttle response or engine sound, I keep getting mixed responses when I google about them lol and are there any disadvantages to putting a cai on.

the stock CAI isnt that bad as it is. Putting a K&N filter and removing the silencer will give you about the same gains.

I´ve got a 2001 Stang and I put a K&N filter and removed the silencer, and yes it helped. But when I bought my CAI, it was a big difference, especially in throttle response (in 5th gear too). There is a whoosing sound that comes with it, but I don't mind it at all. I bought my CAI from AM, and paid about $79 for mine. There are others that sell for over $150!! It makes a diff and is worth it. Had mine for about 3 yeras now...ZERO problemas. I would Armor All the rubber parts to the CAI so they don't dry out and crack from the engine heat...enjoy that pedal.

But how much gain did you actually get for the buck? MAYBE 2 Hp on a good day.

You might get a little bit, but it's not much more than the stock system. Mine sat in 2 inches of snow then I drove her to walmart. It was fine.
