spark plug/throttle body question

Default spark plug/throttle body question

has anyone used ngk v-power iridium spark plugs on a v6 mustang?? if so are they worth it?? and do they add any hp or anything??? also how much hp will bbk 65mm throttle bodies give me over stock?? rpmoutlet.com claims they give 9hp

Your questions have probably not been tested much on a V-6, but for the most part, I would say the plugs are a gimmick. Most guys with fast Mustangs use run of the mill, copper plugs. I have a 380 rwhp car and run on cheap-*** Autolite's, so what does that tell you? I am not alone.

You will make the best spark with copper plugs PERIOD. BUT, they don't last as long. Platinum plugs will go 50 or even 100k miles. Also, keep in mind that your car has a stock ignition, so that is really the limiting factor.

On a V-6, I would just stick with stock-type plugs gapped properly.

As far as the TB, these are generally sensible, proven mods. 9 hp, though, is a bit more then what you would see. On the GT's, you typically get around 10-14 witha TB AND a Plenum, so I would expect a V-6 to be about a couple at most, but I have never seen dyno proof. You will feel 5 hp with the butt-o-meter, but only because your wallet will be thinner. Otherwise, don't expect much. Throttle response will be a better though.

Dont spend big money on plugs its worthless good old NGKs or autolites get the job done just fine. ANd the TB is not worth the money unless your blown or have heads,cam,intake upgrades.

What about good ole Ford factory plugs, Motorcraft. Are they any good?

those are fine, but autolites im pretty sure are cheaper. There is no reason to spend more then $2 a plug ever on your street car. IF you had a race car and need that extra 1-2 hp it might give you then maybe it might be worth it.

Agreed, not to mention that if you get a larger TB the blade will hit the opening on the upper intake unless you have it ported to match.

i just threw some ngk v-powers in mine and you do see a difference with response with the car on get up and go

Maybe its because you just added new plugs to your car, not the actual plugs doing much extra.

yeah thats true........ have any of u ever had the whole nagging thing from the power steering , when i turn it nags, but it doesnt need fluid cant figure it out

spending that much on spark plugs arent worht it unless your running it down a drag strip and another thing to think about is if you get a larger throtle body your letting more air in so you need to let more air out which mean exhaust
