Default Idle Probs on a V6

Hey guys. I have a daily driver V6 and the idle is sometimes going up and down. I replaced the IAC and nothing. wasted 200 bucks on that. any other possibilities why that is?

on a red light sometimes the car idles at 1000rpm or worse sometimes 1200-1500rpm. its killing my MPG.

thanks.

stock 2000 V6 with auto tranny.

nope, its the black thing before the throttle body and after the filter. i believe it's inside or right after the filter on the air housing. i've heard about them getting covered with oil from k&n's over time. sometimes my car will idle high, like you said around 1200 rpm's or so after i start it up, but if i tap the gas pedal it'll go right back down to where it's suppose to be, have you tried tappin' the pedal? also is the a/c on when it idles high?
