Default Put the Slicks on yesterday. . .

So i finally put the slicks on the car and played arround last night.

they are 28x8x15 Mickey Thompson ET DRAGS

I went to a friends house and put them on my car then drove a mile up the road to a residential area to have some fun. I wanted to get a feel for them before going to the track.

test1.
No burnout. 3,000rpm Dump

It bogged on me super bad, even without a burnout they were just too sticky to turn the tires at 3,000rpms, it bogged down and i spun a bit on the 1-2 shift.

test2.
No burnout 4,000rpm dump

I got a little bit of tire spin but it bogged down a little too, i wasnt totally satisfied with it but just being able to dump the clutch at 4,000RPMS was a good feeling!

test3.
Burnout, 4500+ dump

Burnout!!! Did a nice smokey one, nothing crazy, just till i see some nice smoke. Decided to launch my *** off this time. I didnt hold the rpms i just dumped the clutch on the way up. I dropped the hammer just as the tach was passing 4500rpms. It spun but the rpms fell to about 3500-4000rpms before going back up. I felt this was my best launch, and i figure ill hook a little bit better at the track (this wasnt the best road)

Overall i am very pleased. Hoping to bring my 2.3-2.4 60' down below 2.0

We shall see . . .. .

heh the only reason i went with the 28" tall tire is because i bought them used. Beggers cant be choosers!

Normaly how much time will slicks take of the E.T.? Last time I went to the track I couldn't get past 15.85 at 86mph (Compaired to a 16.051 @ 88mph without 3:73 gears, t-lock, diablo tune.) I think it is mostly due to the amount of tire spin off the line and durring the 1-2 shift everytime. I was planning on borrowing some slicks from my friend who has a 525rwhp Prochraged '95 Cobra that actually needs them.

Slicks improve your times mostly by improving your 60' (as well as tire spin in other gears)

but the general idea is for every .1 in the 60' you gain .2 in the 1/4 mile

SO

if you run a 15.5 with a 2.4 60', then you put slicks on and pull a 1.9, you would gain about a second in the 1/4 mile..

This is just an estimate, manny other things contribute to this.

I've seen GT's with BASIC BOLT ON'S and slicks put down 1.7 60fts that were goot for high 7's / low 8's in the 1/8th.

Let me know how the 8 wides do ya.. I was going to get those but now I'm thinking of switching back to 10's

Ill be very happy witha 1.7, that would put me into the low 12's i think.

that would be a .6 diffrence in the 60' !!

I just try to set my expectations low so if i end up with a 2.0 i wont be sad.

I think after a few passes, maybe not right away but once you get use to them you'll get at least 1.8. After I did a lot of launches on my 275/40 Drag Radials I could put down 1.90 60fts

The launch you saw was a 4,000k dump with no burnout.

Later on after on i launched at just under 5,000 after the burnout and it was teh sex

The only suspension i have is LCA's and SFC's, I've got UCA's in the mail but with my rear springs so soft i doubt much will happen with the front tires.

Wish the tires were 26" tall but i think it'll do.

stock springs/struts/shocks etc.

Adjustable suspension is expensive!

used billit springs are your freind. I swapped mine out for 50bucks and it sits a bit better now and it actuly hooks better with that slightly stiffer rear spring russ. You might wanna look into those as i see them used all the time for 40-100 bucks.

We also need some camera work with me and you now that my FPSS is no longer in the picture and pulls full time.

ps- your car sounds damn fast at the end of that 2nd video. makes me miss the old v6 power days at the house every weekend when i was single.
