Hey guys,

Well, I finaly just purchased my first mustang, a 2002 V6 3.8L automatic, no mods, completely stock. The car is in extremely good condition, and it has been a long time dream for me to own a stang. Anyways, I was wondering where a good place to start modifications on my car? I am no professional mechanic, however I have worked on all of my previous cars without any problems. I would like to start adding mods to the engine and interior.
I know there are a few things that I wouldn't be comfortable installing myself without a professional doing, would it be wise to have the dealership install these parts, or are there other options for having mods installed?
One last thing, I have always been extremely interested in mechanics and doing things myself, are there any good pieces of literature out there to aid a entry level wrench head in doing some of this work?

First off, try Underdrive pulleys, a intake or filter of some sort, and some exhaust.

These basic things will help you pick up a little power and will increase gas mialge.

 

Teal Beast has you on the right track. I'd go for a Cold Air kit first, learn how to install it. Then a good dual exhaust system would be next. Might want to ask a knowledgable friend to help install it or get some info from a mechanic. Still not too difficult though. I had my underdrive pullies installed by a mechanic just becuase I didn't have a harmonic balancer puller. Didn't cost my anything but is usually about $50 for labor. You probably want to mix it up some with some exterior parts to make the stang look good though. Rims and tires would be first there. Just go with what you like and want.

 

If you dont have any mechanically inclined friends, MAKE SOME! Try finding local Mustang/car clubs and join them, head out to meets and get active in your local car community, its the best way to learn whats up.
