I need some advice w/ tires & lowering
I was thinking of lowering my car with http://www.americanmuscle.com/h-r-sp...ngs-96-04.html, but I also want to use 17x9's. I don't want my tires to rub, is there anything I can do? Should I just stick with the ugly stock tires?

+1 You certainly won't rub, only chance of rubbing would maybe be with 17*10.5's out back while cornering hard if you still have lots of body roll, otherwise you should be fine.

there will be no rubbing with 18s on the car. i recommend though that you lower the car first and to do it right. swap the springs, the shocks, and get caster camber plates. i have the h&R race springs, and they are stiff, the super sport will be much stiffer. great for handling. i recommend you get some blistein shocks and maximum motor sports c/c plates too.

17x9's would be cheaper than 18x9's, is there a larger advantage with that extra inch on each wheel, or is it primarly aesthetic?

Im running 18x9s on all 4 corners. Honestly it is in your best intrest to go with 17s. 18 inch wheels weigh more and will (very slightly) hurt your straight line performance. So yes 18s are mostly just for looks. Also I should mention, TIRES. . . . . the 17 inchers cost a conciderable amount less than the 18s.
Even with all the above mentioned crap, I dont regret getting 18s myself. The only thing I DO regret is NOT going deep dish on the back. Wich I hope to do soon with a whole new set of rims.

But yeah when you lower your stang, pick a spring, match some shocks/struts to your needs, and definitely get C/C plates so you can re-align the car.

hey so im getting my money together for some rims and on AM im looking to get the FR500s with 18x9 in the front and 18x10 in rear..but AM is telling me the best tire fitment is the 285/35-18 ? i was reading some of the stickys and this tire size isnt listed so i wanted to get the free mount and balance but i need some opinions if this tire isnt too good or what?

A 285 will fit on the rear of a 18x10.I had them on my GT.They would not fit on the front.
