Question Need advice new wheels and tires, in mexico Sidewall Height VERY IMPORTANT

Big Shout-out to everyone on this great community!

I have requested help on this forums in the past, with my mainfold crack and replacement problem. which everything came GREAT thanx to all the help and support. I cannot be anymore gratefull with all of you guys!!!

Now heres the deal. I have a 2000 mustang GT, and for some odd reason seems to have the v6 rims.. which it was totally unknown for me till some guy posted a reply on a thread and mentioned it.

My actual tires are 225-55-16 and they are about to expire , not to mention i DO NOT like how that 225's look from the rear, i want the Section Width to look nice and agressive.

So im looking foward to get new wheels and tires. I have hered alot of putting 20" in it but i like to race once in a while and i have hered very negative stuff about 20" so im decided to install 18". My GOLDEN DREAM is to put those kick *** deep dish bullit replicas you guys have on you're store, but mexico import taxes plus shipping makes them really expensive.. so i cant do that...

I can get these locaclly. My choice of rims: Privat Kontakt

I have two choices 18x8.5 and 18x9.5

My guess is that 18x8.5 on the front and 18x9.5 rears. Now here come's the part where i request your wisdom!!

here in mexico the Sidewall Height is VERY important because we have a lot of bumps and holes.. its NOT that bad but the streets are DEFINETLY not as smooth as US streets.. so ANYTHING below 40's will lead to their doom.

As im NOT familiar in ANYWAY with tire size's i need to know the best option for tires..

Heres my choice AFTER cheking your forums, calculators and such. Please let me know if im wrong or if you know a better combo.

18x8.5 rims on front | tires: 245-45
18x9.5 rims on rear | tires: 275-40

Here is the list of tire size's they offer with each wheel. Listing in case you find a better combo.

FOR 18x8.5
325/60 R18
285/60 R18
255/55 R18
245/45 R18
245/40 R18
235/45 R18
235/40 R18
225/40 R18

FOR 18x9.5
325/60 R18
295/30 R18
285/60 R18
275/40 R18
265/35 R18
255/55 R18
255/35 R18

So there it is, thanx for reading and hope to hear from you guys soon!!

18x8.5 and 18x9.5 are kind of odd rim dimensions (i think the 05+ use that). Have you looked into getting 18x9 in the front using a 265/30/18 tire and 18x10 in the back using a 285/35/18 or I believe you can even go to a 315 on the rear using 18x10 rim.

EDIT: Just remembered you don't want to go under 40 for the sidewall. You can stick with a 17 inch rim then and you won't have a problem. Otherwise with an 18 inch you will probably throw off your speedometer. But like I said 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 are kind of strange sizes so I'm sure someone else will be able to confirm it for you. Are you positive you can't go down to a 30 or 35 sidewall because that will be a nice setup for sure.

Hey Dave! thanx for your reply. Yah thats the problem i cant go below 40.

But on a second thought, importing the wheels might not be as expensive as i thought.

So im thinking maybe i could buy 2 of each type of this wheels.

Anthracite (gray) Deep Dish Bullitt Wheel 94-04 (18x9)
Anthracite (gray) Deep Dish Bullitt Wheel 94-04 (18x10)

So what size's of tire would be the BEST, knowing i cant go anywere below 40

Thanx in advance

remember that section width is a ratio. As the rim gets taller and the tire gets wider the need for a 40 series passes and 35's become appropriate.

Hey Red!!!! --He's the one that helped me with my Mainfold problem, Thanx to him, my stang is alive and working good!

How you been amigo!

Thats the problem, i KNOW i cant go anywere below 40.

So you telling me there is NO way to put:
on front | tires: 245-45
on rear | tires: 275-40

They will NOT fit or what? This mean im DOOMED to go with 17"? i mean if theres a way to have above 40's with 18" ill take it!!!

You said you can't go below a 40... but how bad would a 35 be?

275/35/18 for the front
295/35/18 for the rear

+1 otherwise 275/40/17 tires will fill out the back pretty nicely and that would be on a 17x9 rim all around. <- thats the setup I use

You can do a 35 series if you're using a wide enough tire. Let me look at some options for you.

Do you have a handheld tuner? If not you'll need to get one. Tire diameter is going to change.

Hey red!

Yah i notice'd that on the tires 101 calculator. And on a second though 35's on the rears doesnt sound too bad, i mean the sidewall height isnt THAT low.. plus the car is lighter on that end so bumps shouldnt be like "their doom" haha

the recommended size is ALWAYS: 245/40 and 275/35.

If you change anything on the calc it goes crazy with red messages warning you about brakes hehe.

SO i think those size's will do just fine, i mean -will 275/35 fit the rear nicely?

for an 8.5" and 9.5" rim set:

255/40/18 front
285/35/18 rear

Those will have plenty of sidewall height for any road you can drive those rims on. 18's might not be the best choice. I'd go with a 17" rim and give yourself the extra inch of room for sidewall.
