To Stagger Or Not To Stagger
Would it be better to go with 265/35/18 all around, or should i mix it up with 265/35/18 up front and 285/35/18 in the back ????? I have a 98 GT Convertible and would be using the 95 Cobra R Rims. Any input would be greatly appreciated. THANKS !!!!!!

+1. Don't stagger the tires, just the wheels. It'd look like RICE with the tires....seen it before

Are you sure it's a 95 Cobra R wheel you're looking at? Because I personally have never seen a 18'' 95 Cobra R rim before. I know AM has 17x9 and 17x10.5 95 R rims...not sure about 18s though.
And I say don't stagger unless you've got a wider rim.

This is an old thread, but just what I've been looking for!
I'm also a member over at RX8club.com, as I initially wanted to buy an RX8 before I settled on the Stang. I couldn't be happier, but the folks over on those forums are quite nice and know what they're talking about, and the 8 still gets me all worked up it's so sexy. But anyways...
I read a topic over there on why one should not stagger their tires. Since the RX8 is very neutrally balanced from the factory, you basically throw off the balance by putting wider tires in the back. I'm wondering how this relates to us Mustang owners. I know for a damn fact our cars are no where near as sound in the suspension area as the 8 is, but I'm still curious.

I've read almost all of that topic, and I've come to the conclusion that our cars would benefit more from that additional traction rather than the neutral handling, if that exists for us.
What do you folks think? Just something that I was pondering now that I'm going to need new tires comes spring time when I get my car back out of storage. I think I'm going to stick with the stock wheels for now and go with 245/45 up front and 275/40 in the back. But back on topic... thoughts?

Well those cars are setup very differently then ours. We have a heavier Iron block v8 up front with small tires out back. These cars when pushed hard like to have the back end come out. That's why wider (to an extent) back tires will help make the car handle a bit more neutral and not oversteer.
Just my thoughts on it. I also rock 245/275 on stock wheels and it works well for me. Car handles very nicely with my mods.

If u drive the car much, and want 2 rotate the tires then it's a bad idea. Yes it looks bad ***, but 2 me I would rather b able to rotate my tires. The only other thing is what I did do is use a set of wheel spacers on the back. I used a 1&1/2" spacer on a set of sve 17x9's and like the look of that.
