Let's say, HYPOTHETICALLY, I was wondering if it was bad idea to drive 600 miles with a 205 skinnies up front. Obviously driving in rain is a NO NO.. unless one goes under 30 or so.. but how would they do with 25-28psi on the highway for 2-3 hours at a time?? Thanks!

And remember, this is all hypothetical... ('Cause I know I'll probably get yelled at )

 

small tires like that heat up really fast and arent supposed to be driven on for long periods of time. the highway is the last place id drive skinnys on. you wouldnt want a front tire blow-out at 75, do you? you probably wont live to see the results of what happened.

 

Holy crap, never heard this "rumor." Im not doubting you it's just that I've never heard it before. Kinda makes me nervous when my stang club makes it's next cruise to Lakeland Hooters about an hour away. If anything I just wont try and keep up w/the pack. Not that we haul *** as a group, but on the highway we make up good time.

 

around town is fine but from the number of skinnies I've seen fail at the track compared to rear tires failing is kinda scary. I'd just change tires after you get to the track. Unless it's a true street thing and you have to drive there on your track tires... Then just keep the speed down and an eye on your tires.

 

i never had a problem with mine and just think Honda's run 205 all they around the whole car what can it hurt i drove 210 miles on slicks and skinny but i trailered the car home ,,but it was not a fun drive so i would not recomend 600 miles

 

If you do decide to attempt this, make sure the tires are inflated properly for the load they will bear. Too low a pressure will cause the tire to run hot, and can easily lead to a failure (remember the Firestone/Explorer debacle?). I never had a problem driving 200 miles on the highway with 165s back in the day, but if I'd had a blowout, that one 'lil skinny tire would have been hard pressed to steer the car at 70 mph.

 

My skinnies up front are 205's, and like flyinfox said, Civics, Tercels, Sentras, and Kia's run those all day long, so I don't really see what it would hurt, as long as they are properly inflated.

 

Running on the skinnies is fine as long as you have the proper inflation. My old honda's back in the day came with a 175 tire on them!!! Drove the crap out of that car not a problem with them so a 205 is just fine to run on normal highway use. Like said previously...most all import's come with a 185-215 on them so there shouldnt be any problem with them.

 

They should be fine. My BMW had 195s all the way around and nothing happened. Plus I only drove it on the highway. You should be fine.
