Default Sub Enclosure

I am currently changing up my audio system and was wondering if anyone knew of a box that will hold 3 10" jl w6s and fit in the trunk of a 2002 convertible? Anyone have custom boxes and enjoy them? Are they worth the hassle?

You are going to have to have something custom made. Its really not hard to make a custom box if you have the tools and a helping hand to hold stuff.

Yeah build it your self. All it takes is some thought out measuring, and basic hand tools. Lets see...... particle board.... hammer and nails..... a measureing tape.... and a hand saw (hand saw for cheap rout). Just think it through before hand its pretty easy!

BTW, I recomend sealing the box with silicone before ya nail it closed, it helps keep it air tight.

I used to build boxes for peeps when I was in HS, Most are pretty easy to do. It only gets to be a beeyoch when ya gotta "build" the box inside the car cuz the box wont fit in through the trunk space toatally built!

Yeah I have built regular dual vented boxes but nothing custom fabricated.

Plus I think I am going to have to build it inside the car......great!

You have to be careful when building a box yourself, I do custom audio systems with a friend, and we have a lot of experience in car audio but still leave the box building up to someone else. To get max performance and sound quality out of the box you have to read the specs on the subs to see how much airspace they need for optimal sound, make sure the box is properly tuned to a specific Hz, and the box has the proper thickness. Also you have to make sure for careful spacing and size on the ports of a box. But if you get a person who is an experienced box builder, the options and styles are endless (fiberglass, vinyl covered, carpet, etc..) The possibilities are endless, but I'd seriously do my homework before attempting to make your own box.

Forgot to add, If you're putting subs in, a smart thing to do would be take all the carpet out of the trunk before hand, and install dynamat all through the trunk and trunk lid, to keep away from the "ghetto rattle". If you want you can get some rhino lining or something along the lines of that to line it with, it works about the same as a sound densener. But if you install a monster system and don't protect the car, it will hurt the full potential of the sound..
