Ok, removed my power steering rack. When you pull it off you are left with these two pinch rods sticking out of the K Member,,,,


My directions for my rack say nothing about removing these. Now, when I go to the directions it shows the picture of their rack and tell me to "clock the solid bushings, one at three o'clock and one at nine o'clock. Problem being, I have these bushings.

Now, in their directions they show solid offset rack bushings and not the ones I have. Do you think this is to save money on a different set of directions? Im gonna be calling them Monday to see if they can help.

So, here's my question. Do I separate the nice clear bushings I have and not use that inner sleeve and just use the piece that is sticking off K member? Probably can't cause the diameter isn't the same. I know this is hard to diagnose without being here in person, but any idea's will help. If ya wanna come by sometime in the evening that would work too.

 

Without double checking here's my bet based on experience:

The spuds on your K member are just there to hold other stuff. No grinding. The bushings they're talking about "clocking" are offset and would have to be set right or you'd have a bad day. Those bushings you have don't need clocking. Use the metal bit as an inner liner around the pinch spud. THe clear bushings are ploy urethane and go over the metal bits. THe metal parts have that grooving at the head so they won't spin. Neat stuff. Enjoy... mustangs with manual steering requires popeye arms and lance armstrong endurance.

 

Ok, I fixed the problem. Using some UPR poly bushings that a friend had laying around the rack is now mounted. Now, I spent $429 dollars on this kit and one of the tie rod ends need to be sent back. It only threads on about 4 threads before binding and the other one I can thread all the way in.

Also, the windage tray came in today and I got that put on. Motor is basically done and will be back in the car by the weekend.
