Default non mustang owners

why is it that non mustang owners say that all mustangs sound the same...of course they will sound the same cause they have the same engine...how come its always Mustangs and not camaros sound the same....every camaro i ahve heard has sound the same too...as with the gto's, civics, or just any car in general...they will always sound the same or pretty much close to the same sound...it just pisses me off that we (mustangs) are always getting riticuled (sp?) about it being mustang this and mustang that in a bad way

k im done....

i just need ...that is all

When gearheads like us are familiar with a certain brand of cars/motors, we have a "tuned" ear and know what sounds like what. Those that don't have that "tuned" ear catagorize certain sounds with a brand. How many years have gone by, and almost anyone/everyone will hear a vehicle with Flowmaster exhaust and think, Mustang? Its little things like that, that people catagorize. I know when a Mustang, or Ford V8, is passing by before I see it. I also know when a Chevy is going to pass by. Depending on mufflers, I sometimes get thrown off and think a Chevy with mufflers is going to pass by, and it turns out to be a Dodge truck or something.

Anyway, Ford motors have that unmistakeable "gurgle" to them.

I like to trip out my friends and try guessing the color of the approaching mustang by the sound. I'm right about 50% of the time but that's easier with a limited number of colors being popular.

They also get irked that I can tell when a camaro/firebird/gto is coming and I can tell the difference between real powerful 4bangers and pure rice 4bangers (ie a WRX Sti sounds different than a honda with a fart can).

They all do sound roughly the same and that's cool. The devil is in the details. I like a deep muscular sound that you can tell comes from having lots of power. The hollow poppy redneck sound of too much exhaust for the car is just as irritating. A neighbor of mine has a really fast Evo and it sounds tough cuz it is. His brother has a teggy with a fart can and it sounds like crap. They sound a little bit alike because they're both 4cylinders but the Evo is notably tougher in sound and reality.

With my full SLP and catted x, and a friend's 01 cobra with borla and catted x I would think we would sound somewhat similiar with his having a deeper tone because of the Borla. Nope, he's deeper alright, and way louder. 4v's and 2v's are completely different animals.
