Question Would an amp be my solution?

At about half volume, my speakers get distorted. It's not a huge issue because they get pretty loud and still sound good, but I'm only using half of the volume dial - I want more.

Anyways, I bought new speakers a while ago, but they didnt solve the problem so I returned them. So, my power is being restricted somewhere before that - either my stock deck or amp.

Would adding an amplifier pump more power to my speakers? and is that a good idea to do with stock 125watt speakers? I know not to over power them too much.

I added an amp and 2 subs to my stock system (02) and it made a huge difference. Same thing as you describe... had plenty of volume but no depth.. I used a lineout converter and tapped into the stock system. Sounds great now. I can feel the bass in my scalp and still it's crystal clear.

added a couple pics for ya..

that's the thing - i'm really not interested in installing a sub - i don't listen to rap so bass isn't really important. I'd rather not sacrifice the money and trunkspace.

I'm just wondering if an amp by itself would give me more volume.

Bass = Rap is a rather stereotypical statement.. Try some Godsmack or some classic Boston or Disturbed... or.... well you get my point.

*scratch that!.. sounds like you need an amp and speakers.. *

sounds to me that you should just replace your speakers, and add an amp on them.

hehe, good thing u scratched that. I love bass, i even play it, I just don't feel like shaking the earth with my car.

And thanks guys, I'll see what an amp will do - I already replaced my speakers, but they started to lose quality at the exact same level of volume.
