Superchips, Diablo, lap-top?

 

i'd have one customs burnt for your own car... my opinion

 

That is really a loaded question as it depends on your goals and budget.

If cost is not an issue, I would say a dyno tune with a good chip performed by an experienced tuner is the best bet, but not always a viable option. This is expensive especially is you get a tune like this after each mod.

Next would be something similar to the racers package offered by SCT. When tied to a wide band O2 sensor, the driver now has his own tool to tune the vehicle by himself. In some ways this might be better than a dyno tune because the driver has total control of the tune whenever he wants. But, the value of the tune is limited to the knowledge and experience of the driver, though, with this setup you always have contact with an SCT Tuner via phone/email.

Beyond that, you have the mail order world of tunes via programmers or chips. I personally believe a mail order tune is fine with a lightly modded car as you wont gain much by using a dyno unless the original tune is really messed up.

This then brings on the debate of the diablo vs the SCT. And this debate will no doubt go on for years. In short, the Diablo provides the user with a little more control of the tune, the SCT programmer does not. But, the SCT programmers allow for multiple tunes which is nice for someone who has nitrous or just wants separate tunes for different octane fuels. To me the SCT provides for more growth of the vehicle.

 

They are all good. The difference comes from who is writing the tune.

 

Don't you have to send the SCT back to Superchips to get it "reprogrammed" for each mod you get? If thats the case, the Diablo is a better product IMO.

 

Huh? ALL CHIPS have to be sent back to the tuner to be reprogrammed Diablo, SCT, etc.

As far as programmers go, same holds true for diablo or SCT if you make a major mod change. You can't by the Diablo pred. and add stage two cams w.o having the programmer retuned.

At least with the SCT you can have tunes emailed. The diablo does allow for some control by the owner. For example, if you change gears you don't need to send it back or have another tune emailed.

SCT is a superior product to diablo. In some cases, however, I belive the diablo is a better fit for the end user. It really depends on the situation.

I have owned both Diablo and SCT products. The Diablo chip was sent to me with the wrong tune on it and I waited 5 months for them to get it write...they never did and reluctantly gave me my money back. My SCT worked out of the box the first time. I use to have the SCT Extreme Flash Tuner, and now I have the SCT 4 Position Flip Chip with four tunes. Great for nitrous applications. I have seprate tunes for nitrous and na and can switch on the fly. You can't do that with the diablo.

 

SCT period. Simply put the rest are a generation or two behind.
If you want to make changes all the time buy the pro racers package and flash the chip yourself. Takes 5 minutes to flash the tune. SCT's data base is unmatched. You can rent a dyno and tune your own car. I race with guys who datalog and flash between runs at the track.

 

I'm talking the hand-held programmers. The SCT "tuning" software is definately superior, and for a highly modded car is the best route.

The Diablo seems to be the best for the weekend warrior who has bolt ons and not much more.

The thing is with the Diablo programmer, most of the end user changes you can make are really soo minor that they don't make much of a difference. Diablo made these things basically so someone could not screw it up. But, I essentially agree with your comment.

 

the diablo predator will hold a custom tune in the programer and if you want it can be done from your computer. the predator has live data uploading that can be e-mailed to diablo sport and they will e-mail you a custom tune.
