Default Been thinking of upgrading the head unit, help

So I have been thinking of getting rid of the stock Mach460/1000 headunit and getting something nicer. I want to get one of those larger ones with a screen that takes up the whole place of where the large stock setup went. Just looking for ideas. Also I have the Mach1000 sub setup so I don't know how that is gonna work with whatever I end up getting. I guess I will look more into that later on.

i think you'll be alot better off by bringing to an audio store and letting them hook it up.. from what i've heard the 460 and 1000 are some hard **** to hook up.. got mine done with a pioneer premier head unit for $179 but i think that somehow they run your lows to the sub output, i know if i turn the sub output off on the radio my lows go out..

Easy as **** dude.

I'd go with either Pioneer touch screen or the Kenwood that everyone's been getting. If you order it from Crutchfield they'll send you the adapters and harness you need to adapt your mach wiring to the new head unit. It's really simple stuff.

Really? got some links to those head units? the only thing with cars I have never been 100% on is stereo equipment. I just never really cared all that much about it. My car already sounds good to me with the 1000 it has plenty of bass and the mids and highs are nice so no problems there right now. Just really not liking my stock head unit. My biggest concern is the Mach1000 and keeping it working of course. Gotta have some Bass with my metal.

I was in the same boat, didn't really care about audio stuff and was okay with my mach 460 speakers, then saw 01FR500's sale and jumped into it. Went from not knowing **** about audio 1 week to being able to install and wire everything myself the next, it was fun. lol

This is the Kenwood deck that King and someone else here got. From crutchfield they'll send you the install kit, wiring harness adapter for your mach system, and some general instructions free. Free shipping too.

I'm probably going to go with that one (or the newer version of it) or the pioneer equivalent once I get the next stang.

Ok here's my open opinion

1. An easy to use set-up that took my probably thirty minutes to put in the Termi WITH satellite radio. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWGX...wAll=N&tp=5684

2. The BEST full-touchscreen unit out on the market right now. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DDX5...wAll=N&tp=5684

3. Another nice touchscreen, but more $$$. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DNX5...wAll=N&tp=5684

I've installed all of these in Termi's with the Mach system and the only one that took a while was the last one because I was so afraid of breaking the screen putting it it (first touchscreen install). It all depends on what you like and what you need function wise. For instance I like the first because it has a USB input right on the front along with the AUX jack to plug in your ipod/phone/whatever. Simple to install, Crutchfield will give you everything you need to get everything done right.

Yeah that's what I heard too.
I want something that's touch screen, iPod and Navigation like SeanStang said.

Edit: I forgot to add DvD and maybe a game system hook up (doubt it). What's so good about Satelite? I almost had my hands on some Double Din something.

Dustin, get a Kenwood DDX512 (or DNX5120) touch screen. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. That thing kicks some series butt, no joke.

I don't really care about DVD player built in, but if it has it cool. Don't care about GPS at all again if it has it I guess thats cool, but I dont want to pay for it. Not looking to blow a **** ton of cash on this. I just think its time to update the stereo plus mine has been doing the dreaded CD sticking ever since I got it. Kenwood looks nice, but what about a Pioneer setup? I have always been a fan of there products and used them in my 99 F150 before.

So any of these should be able to work the Mach1000 too then?

Yes. The Pioneer units are nice but they are significantly more expensive than the kenwood. I'm also a fan of their stuff as I have the DEH-6000UB in my car and love it.

The Kenwood's also have better sound processing. The systems I showed you are all for the Mach 1000 system. Crutchfield will give you the correct harness to work with all of your speakers. Pioneer units are nice but generally pricier for the same product.

It should, if you hook it up right. Dustin, which unit are you looking at?

I don't think it plays HD-DVDs if that's what your asking. And for bluetooth and Nav you need to buy those seperately.
