Default Spoiler Delete?

I have been looking at some pictures of the cars, in users signatures, Pcolav6 to mention one, and I like the look of the rear end without a spoiler. Do you like that look?

Also, I was wondering how much trouble it would be to get this done to a '99 Mustang. I never really go that fast for the spoiler to actually do anything. The only thing I am afraid of, is that once they pull the spoiler off, plug the wholes with something, and then paint/blend the surrounding areas that the wholes will fall in. Is that even possible? What do they tend to fill the wholes with?

I found it, I just don't like it. I used to like the look of the 02-04 "sharp-edged" type job, but then I saw some pictures of Mustangs without the rear spoiler and loved that look. I need to get my rear quarter panel replaced so the body shop guy is going to have to blend somewhat of the trunk on my driver side so I think I might have him do it then.

I personally dont like the look. I think the best look is that cobra wing or whatever it is. I cant find one but i want one soo bad. Not the GIANT cobra wing. The little small one that makes it practically wingless just completes the look.

Yeah, I agree. Its more of a lip then anything. It makes the rear end look nicer and add some moderate shape to the trunk curve.

Sometimes I just wish I had a blank check to spend on whatever I desire on my car...

Before I go ahead with my spoiler delete, I've decided to remove it myself, and see what it looks like, then if I don't like the look, which I doubt, I will put it back on. Am I going to need to remove glue or anything or is it just two screws/bolts on each side of the spoiler support?

nope, just the right socket, and u will need some sort of sillicone paste if u put the wing back on too cover around the bolt so water doesnt seep in. and u will need plugs if u keep it off.

Okay, thanks. What would the body shop do to cover the wholes? (professionally)

Just find someone with a wingless decklid that wants a spoiler and swap. Body shops around me WILL NOT TOUCH the rear decklid. Mostly they say it's impossible to make it look right in a cost effective manner.

Your stock spoiler is for looks. It's not angled right to do anything valuable. Mine works but RUINS the view out the rear window and gets a lot of sour-puss comments from the peanut gallery.

What did you want done to your spoiler? Painted?

Yeah I don't drive fast enough for it to do anything, even if it did. I can't wait to look out of my rear-view mirror and not see a spoiler. Just see my 3rd break light. Its a Cobra R wing right? As long as you're happy with the way your car looks, F 'em.

I agree move the wing back, makes it look so much better and its a free mod if you have drill bits and some time and some silicone.

I wanted them to do a 2 tone paint job. They woudn't touch the top half of the car basically. Anything that faced the sky seemed to be fibreglass and they were terrified of a bad job. I also had a buddy that hates wings and we spent weeks trying to find a body shop that would warranty their work on filling the holes and painting the decklid. Nobody would take the job.

W00T. Best idea so far. You dont' have to move it back far... just a tad makes a huge diff. Otherwise there are precious few options. My buddy Ingo used a set of chrome plugs with rubber sealer gaskets built in that seemed to be made just for that purpose. Don't know where he got them though. I can ping him in germanland if you're curious and serious.

I like the no spoiler look on some cars. I am debating this same question, on my 95 cobra.

So pretty much, if I want to get my wing removed and my wholes filled in, I better check with the body shop before I take my wing off, or else I would be stuck with a DIY job.

Silver. I'm just going to go later and get an estimate. Are the plugs flush with the trunk lid?

-Two ~1/4inch wholes on each side
