Default Shorty Antennas??

So I just bought my 2006 V6 Mustang and was looking to swap out my factory antenna with a shorty one. Which size would look better on my car, an 8" or 14"? Has anyone had any luck with this? Does it ruin your reception quality or enhance it?

I had an 8" shorty at one point and definitely noticed a decrease in reception.

Yeah, I put an 8'' on my 2002 mustang. A buddy of mine has an 07 with an 8'', and he loves it.

I have the 14" I like how it lines up with the roof line. No loss in reception but it all depends on where you live. If your fairly close to a major city you won't notice any loss

This is correct. If you are close to a major city you're reception will not be any better/worse. I have the 8" and my reception stayed the same...I live about 20-25 miles outside of St. Louis.

Try this. Take off your antenna and drive around without it for a day or two (where you drive the most) and see if you loose reception or not. If you loose reception often get the 14". If you only loose it for a couple seconds here or there get the 8". Reason I'm saying this is that I can drive around town without my antenna in and still receive good reception. It cuts out for a second here and there but 97% of my trip I'll still have perfect reception.

Yeah - Maybe I'll try it over the weekend so I can make my decision. I'm not a fan of my big antenna...

I went ahead and cut mine with advice from someone on this site. I keep choping it down untill I felt it was the right size. I think I'm at 10 in. and it didn't cost me anything but time.

I only listen to it when it's too cold to roll the windows down. Durning spring/summer/fall the radio stays off I'd rather hear my exhaust!

It does use that one but you have to still tune into a radio station to hear the sound... So good reception is important to hear it... Can't have Howard Stern cutting in and out.. haha

I bought the 8'' for both of my Mustangs. No problem with reception on either.

Yeah... easiest install I have made in my life... I have the 14" one and it seems to give a little better reception than the stock one did. If that's even possible. I'll post a pic of it soon...

I removed mine as well. The only bad thing is that my CD player will not eject the current CD, so I am getting tired of listening to my friends band. Now I usually turn off the radio and listen to the exhaust.

This is an old thread, but I just wanted to add to it that I also just took my stocker and cut it down to 14" pulled the ball off the other end I cut off and added a dab of JB weld and put the ball on the new end of the cut shorty antenna, and then painted it black again to look like new. Cost me nothing as I already owned the paint and JB weld from other projects and house chores.
