Do you think the VIS Cobra R hood is functional? if so, would it be a bad idea to purchase it if the water will get onto the engine?

o and LANCE? I take it your your hood is functional, DOesnt water get into the engine compartment?

Mine is the OE replacement hood from HOFibertrends. It is non functional. Price is better than anyone else out there and it fits perfect. I made no adjustments to the hood. Mine was 419.00 after shipping which is cheaper than most before shipping. The vents are not cut out. You could cut them out but yeah water will get on your motor. I would say only cut it out if you only drive on nice days.

some water on your motor is fine, do you think it stays dry when you drive in the rain?

No,the VIS is not fuctional either. The Niche hood is but I talked to a guy last weekend that had some lousy customer service from them and said they don't back what the sell.He had to have the hood redone because of bad craftmanship.

My Cobra's hood has the vent's and I have done the hood vent mod to it for better air flow.I have no problem in the rain or washing it.Don't seem to affect anything.

The only problem I see with cutting the vents on the cobra r hoods is that the water could leak into the motor and make its way to the coil on plug boots and get down below there and make your car run like crap. Mine don't seem to get a good seal and if you spray any water close to them, water pools up around them and gets down in there and the car runs like crap.

I don't get any water on the top of my motor when I drive in the rain. Just mainly the bottom. I've drove mine in the rain the day before my last car show and didn't have to reclean my motor for the show. In fact i haven't cleaned my motor since January, and I just usually have to wipe or blow the dust off the top of the motor.

The 5.4 in the 00' R is taller than a 4.6. The hood is just to cover the engine and look good doing it. Same deal on the 95' R's with a 351. Thats why the 96' cobra has the hood it does. 94 and 95 had the same hood as GT bit in 96 to 98 it had to have the the taller hood to clear the intake of the 4V motor. Just so you know.
