Default advice needed for sirius radio

I am tired of leaving my sirius tuner on after forgetting to turn it off when exiting my car. I currently have it powered by using the cigarette lighter adapter it came with. My question is, what would be the best wire to tap into for a keyed on switch? Or is there a better way?

Yes it does, but I believe it is the same way as the other lighter connector. I think I tried that already, but I will make sure though...thanks

If you remove the plastic plate under your steering wheel, you will find a red wire with a green strip. This is a "keyed-on" power supply. You can then buy a cigarette lighter adapter and wire it to this wire and a ground. Then, just plug in the radio right into it and hide it.

water do you have any idea if this wire would be the same on an 06? knowing where a keyed-on power supply is might come in handy later

No.....but, there a a bunch of places. I fyou look at your fuel injectors, you will see that one of them has an extra wire, for example. This should be the "keyed-on" power.

I have always found an ignition on power lead on the fuse box usually without a fuse. My wifes car Cig light turns off when car is powered off but Im on the same boat as our stangs always have current. I may just run the positive from the cig lighter to the fuse box ignition source.

When you say buy a cigarette lighter adapter do you mean a different one then the cigarette lighter power supply adapter it came with? or could I just cut the end that plugs into the lighter on the existing adapter, but would I still need a ground?

Easiest way would be to cut the power cable from your existing cig lighter and connect it to an ignition source. The other option would be to hard wire it .

I'm thinking the best option might just be to hard wire it. I think it would look cleaner to completely get rid of the exposed lighter adapter that reveals wires and also prevents me from showing off my shiny steeda lighter lol...maybe I can wire it into the power supply to my cd receiver which is keyed on? wonder if that would work?

You can do that. You can buy a 2 cig splitter hard wire that then connect your sirrus and have an extra connection for a cell phone charger, that way you wont damage the sirius car charger and have another port open for something else. Where are you going to mount your sirius? I put mine right on the shifter bezel below the radio mounted horizontal.

Good idea, I just did mine the lazy way and vent mounted it. Did you use a special bracket to install yours there. Mine really doesn't give me any problems where it is mounted and has easy access to the screen and functions.

I used the flexible stickon bracket which cannot be seen since the unit is vert. I ll post a pic so you can see. Its out of the way and in a dead space. I have the S50 so it may not look right with the older models.

You can buy a cig adaptor at radio shack and it has a built-in fuse. This is the style with a female end. You hard wire this to the power on supply and then plug the XM radio into that. This way you can always unplug the radio in the future and easily plug anything else into it.

Here a few pics of my setup as you can see it can swing to many places and I do not have issues with shifting. I leave it like the 1st pic below but its good to know that I have options as far as position.
