Paint Chips 2006 Mustang
Hello
New guy here with a question. Bought the wife a 2006 Mustang V-6 last April. Has 10,000 miles on it, has five areas where the paint is chipped down to the primer. Had no chips when I drove it off the lot. Got the first 2 chips and said oh well, that's life, now I have 5 in 7 mos???? I have read on other Ford Forums where paint chipping is a problem. I am taking it to the dealer tommorrow and I am ready to hear that it is just from rocks hitting the car! Nothing we can do.
I have a 97 ford f-150 and the paint is not chipping off and I drive that truck on gravel roads. Anybody else have this problem? Any sugesstions? What is my paint job going to look like in 5 years????
Thanks

Welcome to the board, check your paper work when you bought the car, you should have a paint warranty. Take it to the dealer and have them repaint your car.

paint warranty huh, thats only against fading cracking and failure during the 3 yr /36,000 not external forces acting on the paint. paint can be considered a wear item, it exposed to the elements and to any acts of god that may occur outside. In short their is no way it can be proved that the manufacturer can prevent paint damage to the car while it is being used in everyday driving. things fall of of semi-trucks all the time, living on a dirt road does not always mean rocks fly up into the paint and chip it. What if someone threw rocks at your car while you were in a store. These are the types of things that can happen to paint while you own a car. dont waste your time going to the dealer...this is what you are going to hear. get some touch up paint and you are going to have to slowly fill in the chips. it may take 5- 10 applications to fill it in completely. unless you want a bumper shop to do it, and they will want to paint the whole area to "blend" it in.

Paint chips
Yes I agree that rocks cause paint damage, but this is extreme for a 7 mos old car. I have never had a new vehicle chip paint like this. I think a paint job on a 23,000 car should hold up better than this.
The warranty does cover up to 12 mos or 12,00 miles for any damage to the paint job from airborne material. I will let you know what they say.

Bringin' this thread back, I'd like to know what happened..
I know the side skirts that I odrered for my G/f's '05 had a ton of little hairline scratches that buffed out pretty easily. I took them outside one day to see what they would look like and it barely scraped the ground and BOOM nick in the paint.. I buffed the hell out of it w/ Scratch X and luckily fixxed the spot, but it did seem like it scratched really easily.
Oh yeah.. Post Count....

Ford offered to touch up the paint chips. said they could be blended in. The manager said that he would have to get permission from Ford to repaint the car. They were pretty good about it, the manager had a puzzled look on his face then he say's it's from rocks hittting the car, I said yeah I know, but I should not have 6 paint chips on a 6 month old car! Something aint right with the paint job, my 1997 ford F-150 paint is not chipped up and I drive the hell out of it on gravel roads.
