I have been considering this for quite some time now also.....however, I don't like the "flip up" monitors because they tend to get in the way of your other dash controls......this is the one I've been looking at. http://cgi.ebay.com/KENWOOD-DVD-CD-M...QQcmdZViewItem

that's pretty nice. I love navigation systems.....they are just so damn expensive! The last thing I need is to be watching a DVD when trying to drive! ha ha ha.....although they aren't supposed to work unless your parking break is on....but I'm sure there are ways around that

Many ways around it! I have the Pioneer Avic-N2 which is a decent device. It has the flip up screen. The molded look is clean though. My friend went with an Eclipse setup and had it put right in where the old 460 unit was and it looked great. Those are much easier to by-pass too if you want mobile entertainment! Pioneer seems to be doing their damnest to prevent people from watch videos. The by-passes are only okay but stupid when it comes to rerouting through the rear view mirror camera and getting some annoying langauage at the bottom of the screen saying "Warning: Object May Appear In Reverse." Pioneer is not user friendly and it doesn't let you really navigate while driving, where the Eclipse does. In my opinion, just save and get the Eclipse. You won't regret it. Or you could go mobile computing which I think I will try next. Now THAT is a sick setup!

thanks for all your advice guys,
I went by my local audio shop ( very nice and trusted guy and knows alot about his audio technolgy) and he told me that the flip out screens are really diffuclut to put into my mustang for various reasons like where the shifter is and also clearence wise, so he told me to go with the indash flush ones. so i know some of you guys have them so i was wonderin if anybody has one that is under a grand ( dnt need one with navi but would like one with xm ready), also what do you guys think about this one

I say go with the Alpine. They are far superior in sound to Kenwood IMO. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zMhy6WT...AW200&g=168550. The flip out units are not hard to install at all in your mustang. Schoshe makes and adapter for it that fits right in the 460s place. I just personally like the molded look.
Crutchfield is cool and all, but check pricegrabber.com for the model you want. They have consistently saved me money on everything. Then when you find the cheap price on that site, go to cardomain.com and have them price match it at 105%. They are awesome when it comes to honoring competitors' lower prices and beating them (plus they usually have free shipping).Could save you a grip in the long run.

Nevermind on the pricegrabber thing. I just did it for both the Alpine and the Kenwood and everyone is equal so in that case go Crutchfield. Keep pricegrabber it in mind though if you buy things like amps and subs, etc. Works great for finding cheap dynamat prices too.

Not as of yet. I'll post some up in two weeks when I tear out everything again to run my new wires. I have a new sub setup that I am putting in my trunk. The Dynamat definately helps! I bought like three boxes to cover the car. Also I plan on making a cover for the bottom of the trunk lid so I can hide the dynamat a bit better. The silver just looks plain ghetto.

I've been told you have to rewire the whole system to install any aftermarket head unit in those systems.

you dont have to rewire everything, just get the correct metra harness and a new head unit will work fine. you will have to rewire everything if you want to put in aftermarket speakers or amps.
and to the person who was talking about bypassing the security feature that wont let you use the dvd player while you're moving, all you have to do is ground the cable thats supposed to go to the emergency brake and voila! mobile entertainment.

Here's a good article, it might be a little outdated.

Well I had a Sony XAV-A1 in my 96 mustang convertible and that was a sick *** head unit. Plays DVD's/CD's/MP3's and was touch screen.
The advantage of a flip-up is if you put it in correctly it looks like a stock unit and is less likely to get stolen.
