How much boost?
I am looking at a ProCharger setup and was wondering how much boost you guys were running on a stock intervals motor. The motor only has 27k miles. I was thinking about 12 psi and a 3 core intercooler. The car is not a DD, but I dont want to toss something out of the side of the block either. 02 GT with all bolt-ons. Thanks Bubba

i been running 12 psi with my intercooled vortech for the past 25k miles...pulled 410 hp through a automatic on the dyno rollers with only 15* of max timing. with centri's you dont see max boost till redline any way so even if you get into boost at shift at 5k-5500 you wont see anything above 10.
i have had the kit on my car tuned by tony at HP performance back in june 2008 and by tim at modular powerhouse 0ctober 2005. the only thing that has gone wrong on my car was that my auto tranny started to miss WOT shifts so i put in a competition tranny with 3500 stall.
dont fear the boost its the ****...i wont go back

Same here I know a few people pushing 14psi in mustangs and F150's with 2v 4.6 motors. But to me and I am a crazy bastard compared to most, and even I would do 12psi max to keep the bottom end in the car.

really not so much the boost as the power that the stock internals can handle. from what ive read i would stay in the 400-410rwhp range with stock internals. and i think 12 psi would prolly pass that mark if much else is done to the car.
and it also depends how good the tune is.

that's impressive on stock internal man, nice.

i also only hit boost hard at the track..i dont normally let it rev to redline when im running on the street.

it all makes sense now with those numbers and that much boost! im running 400 hp with 13* of locked timing and only 12 lbs of boost through my slushmatic, stock manifolds and stock h-pipe! i wonder what 2 lbs and 4* more timing will do with my power numbers

i'm running 22 lbs but not on stock internal lol, just get a good tuner and a good tune and i'd go between 12-14 psi.. i mean you shouldn't have any issues as long as the tuner does a good job and all.
i was running 450 hp for about 3 months and then went to retune with a new tuner and my motor blew on the dyno at 430 hp (but the a/f was all jacked up at like 20.5:1 so lets not go there) lol point being, just get a good tune and you'll be fine

Thanks everyboby for you input. I pm'ed several people and got thier input, by the way thank you guys very much. I decieded on a 2.1 polished Kenne Bell. It will be here in 2 weeks. I think it will fit my driving style better than the ProCharger setup. Thanks Bubba
PS I have some organs for sale. Anyone need a kidney?

I think it all depends on what day and who built your motor at the factory I've had a couple of guys around here run the same setup as me, 8lbs vortech on stock internals, and they were fine. They got greedy and upped the boost to 10lbs, and within a week have threw a rod...I would love to up my boost, but that scares me...

Intercooling is critical with upping the boost. With a centri blower each lb of boost adds about 14 degrees to the intake temp. With a good intercooler you can remove about 85% of the increase in temp the blower adds. Maybe this is why those Vortech guys threw a rod with 10lbs?

after/inner cooler ?
ok, ive been reading all these threads. here is my deal right now, i have an appointment with a ford dealership performance department, i just ordered a vortech s/c ( V-3 S Trim ) it doesent come with an after/inner cooler, the guy there told me it will be fine for how i drive my car, but he said if i want to i can come back later an have the inner/aft cooler installed, i'm dropping my car off on monday the 24th, i can either tell him/them yeah, let's go ahead and install an after/inner cooler. i;m just wondering, should i go ahead and install this aftr/inner cooler for any heat related issues. just how important is this, i do live in Texas, it gets hot in the summer. does this type of s/c ( vortech ) get hoter than your regular "turbo"/c. please give me sum of ur opionions. Thanks.

Its totally different then how a turbo works. But yes if you can afford it add the aftercooler especially if you live in a place such as Texas where it gets very hot. More heat means a greater chance for detonation and you do not want that to happen.
