A few friends of mine recently got a letter in the mail saying that their mail-in ballot will be nullified for not sending in a valid form of identification with their ballots. Supposedly this is a widespread deal and could affect more than 35,000 potential voters. My question about this is this:

Can't they still go to their poll station on the fourth and vote then? I mean the ID only verifies that it's their vote that was mailed in and not some Joe Smoe who stole their neighbors mail, right?

People are really freaking out about this.

 

nope.. you done voted already. your invalid ballot was still a ballot. obey all rules, get to vote.

 

I did a little research and according to the Colorado regulations they will attempt to verify the identity of the voters after the election and if they are unable to do so then the voter is considered to never have been properly registered and the vote will not count. However the state did not print the instructions with the ballots, so there are alot of understandably angry people out there. But the elections are actully goverened by individual states, so what rules in Colorado doesn't necessarily count anywhere else.

 

Yeah, I just wasn't sure. This will be the first election my friends and I will be able to vote in, so we're all a little excited about the process. Then 11 or so of them who signed up for the vote-by-mail ballots got a letter back saying that since no valid ID was sent in with the ballot, it will be nullified. I just wanted to see if there was anything I could figure out that might help them.

 

I mailed mine a few weeks ago no id was requirred only a sig.

 

Different states have different rules, I guess.

 

Yeah and you only needed to send in ID if it was your first time voting.
