What will you do?
As you all know tomorrow we vote to elect the next leader of our great nation.
(This may become a rant)
Now I have heard or read about people saying things about what they will do if a certain runner is elected president (not on this forum) such as leaving the country or somehting equally stupid.
Now I urge everyone to consider somthing for me.
No matter who you go out and vote for tomorrow at the end of the day when all the votes are counted and we know who the next president is going to be chances are half the nation is going to be dissapointed because it looks like it will be a close one.
Don't rub it in to someone that you know voted for the other guy this is not a contest or a game I say this not because I don't want to be ridiculed (as it looks like my guy is down in the polls, Mccain) but because if he does win I won't do it to anyone else.
If Wednesday morning I wake up and Sen Obama is the president elect I will not plan to move I will not make a snide remark to a democrat and I will not pout or complain.
What I will do is embrace the fact the the next president of the United States has been chosen and as I'm an American I support the president.
I urge you all to do the same because the last thing that this country needs now is for us to be divided further than we already are.
If you don't believe in your president believe in your country.

Very nice post!
It seems that every election people say they are going to move if the candidate they don't support wins. That is nothing new and most of those people are just blowing smoke.
Good luck to both candidates!

I beg to differ, this country needs to be divided. It has come to a point where even the presidential candidates, of the two major parties, share the exact same views on everything, w/ the exception being Iraq. The last thing this country needs is for no opposition to exist in DC. The last thing I want now is for the parties to be united, since only bad things happen. To put it bluntly, democracy works on discourse, totalitarianism works by agreement. I may stand behind this country, but I will only stand by my government if I like it. That's my right and I exercise it by voting for the person I want. Forget about standing behind the president. If you hate him, hate him and do whatever is possible to get him out in four years. This is how our fore-fathers designed this great republic.

I won't outright disagree with you bassman but for right now all we know about the runners is in the past and who ever wins deserves a shot at being president after they get elected.
To a point you know what kind of president they will be based on what they have said and what the stand for but on a completely different point neither of them has been president before so you have no clue what kind of president they will be.
What I'm saying is give whoever wins a chance if they blow it you can go back to treating them like another bush
But maybe they will get somthing right and surprise you
condemnation can come later

If others were running, I would give them a chance. But considering who's running, the outcome is very predictable. Plus, both candidates have already lost my respect. If they want my respect, they better morph into Kennedy and Goldwater real quick. Sorry for being cynical but when you have dealt w/ NJ politics for all your life and the first presidential election that you vote for ends up having a giant bottle of douche and a turd sandwich running, it's hard to not be.

IF Obama does get elected as our president, things won't change very quickly, he won't stop the spending. If he manages to get his taxes through, then that will be another question entirely.. We also have the question of, will he live through his first six months in office? I really think that is a serious question and if an attempt is made on his life we will see a race war like never before. That truly is a scary thought.
I can't afford to give an extra $4,000 away every year, if that happens I will lose my home plain and simple. This is one area where I think that SntBako is way off his rocker with his philosophy of "If you can't pay your bills (higher taxes), quit your job and find a better one." Obviously he lives in a fairly stong economic area where High-paying jobs are anywhere on the horizon.. That outlook just really shows a skewed view of reality, and one that is not present in middle America.
Who knows man? I mean, I really just don't know.. I don't honestly think I could ever respect Obama and that is just my honest answer.
At this point I just have the pray that people will get their heads together tomorrow and make the right choice. Bassman, I agree with you on a lot of your views, but Barr has no chance in hell of winning and a vote for him is really just a vote against McCain, it's not going to prove anything no matter what anyone says.

But it will whip the RNC back from the left. Perot in 92 and 96 had that effect which led Bush to win the nomination in 00 (though that's because he promised to be a good conservative, not this moderate/neo-con he turned out to be).

You know you can say you hate this guy or hate that guy and not agree with his politics. But you have to give either canidate a chance when whoever is elected. They all promise something, but you can't judge the job they do until they are doing the job. Look how many people supported Bush and then ended up changing their minds(lots of republicans) once he was in office. Someone new is better then who we have now.

To me we need more moderate people in office, not crazy religious reps or hippie dems. I think most rational people are moderate.
Plus obama wants college football playoffs! LOL
Regardless of who wins tomorrow they have a **** storm to clean up and unless they make some progress it will be 4 and done.

And I've been lower-middle to middle class all my life, in some points, lower class, my dad has had to depend on things like disability and welfare at one point when he lost two of his fingers.
Point is, with Obama, I won't have someone trying to abolish an organization I belong to. However, I won't be here rubbing it in if Obama wins either. Its all been a debate on here, nothing more, and some people (including myself) will get a little pissed when the debate starts. It shows how much we give a damn about our country and who runs it, which, republican, democrat, ect, is a good thing.
And with either party, things will be good until January, and then they'll wake up and go "what in the hell did I just get myself into"

I think we all know deep down, that this comes down to race. Both men are qualified to become president. 3 things you need to be before becoming president are:
1. be a citizen of the US
2. be at least 35 yrs old
3. reside in your country for at least 14 years.
But this year we have are history in the making because:
1. possibly the 1st black president
2. possibly the 1st woman vice president.
But this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who harbors race, and or gender to be a factor.
We have been in the new millinium for close to a decade now. This is not the 1990's anymore people. White people, Black people, and Women are in charge of a lot more now than ever. If I had a white boss, black boss, or a woman boss, I would still do as I was instructed to do.. So lets not bring race or gender into it.. But, we all know it's gonna surface sometime, probably very soon after 2009 starts. I hope it stays civil without any radical hate groups going ape ****..
If Obama wins, some white people are gonna be pissed off.
If McCain wins, some black people are gonna be pissed off.
But like I said, this is 2008 and we should be able to get past it without an uprising.
My neighbor has a McCain sign in his front yard, I have an Obama sign in mine, yet we still maintain civility towards each other because we both realize that this shouldn't be about race, but about values and issues facing our country as a whole. Not devided, but United.. that's what makes our country stronger than the rest. Young as we are as far as countries are concerned..
