Default So I do like Glocks.

So after hearing all of the hype about Glocks over the years I finally decided to try one out for myself. For a long time I thought I didn't like them......man was I wrong. I picked a NIB Glock 37 because it was at a price that I felt was just too good to pass up. I have only had it a couple weeks and I'm planning to add one of its brothers to my collection in the near future. I want to thank R3D for all of his insight as it made me more confident in my purchase.

So here is a pic of my new G37 with Nebo tactical light.

I think the G18 is available for LE only.

Good luck with that. If you have Department of State letterhead and a PO or are a County sherrif, etc...

There are plans for adapters all over the web.

Got all of them up to the 36. They jumped the shark with the 36 and I stopped buying more after that.

What do you mean by ''Jumped the shark"?

I'm planning on buying the 21 next year after my birthday, can't wait to own one.

Glock is amazing. We use Glock model 22 at our department. Ive experimented with SigSaur P220 and it didnt come close (IMO) to Glock. Glock > all (even Kimber)

the 10mm is not a fun round to manage in such a small frame. It's a bit of a handful in a full size gun. Keep that in mind when selecting a calibre.

I had a really hard time training people to use the Sig's. There's just too many buttons and levers and the barrel sits too high off the frame for good recoil control. It was too common an occurrence to see a trainee holster their sidearm with the hammer back using the sigs and S&W's. Glocks were so much easier to deal with and get the students proficient with. The shape of the frame seemed to make it easier to build the muscle memory for them to keep the index finger on the frame too, rather than letting it slide down over the trigger guard.

Kimber makes nice guns but I can't call it suitable for institutional use. A 1911 is just too demanding of the operator and it's just too damned heavy for just 8 shots.

As soon as I convince the wife about having a gun, I'll get a glock. Still working on her, even had my dad and stepmom helping me out. She'll wear down soon enough.

Hm. With all the ridiculously unecessary guns you can buy in the U.S., you cant buy a G18?

Were the students new to guns or were you training for a special group? I can def. see where it would be easier to teach with the Glock. I know the recoil on the P220 was much worse than the GLock 22 and rightfully so being a .45 vs a .40 I know what you mean as far as shooters having trouble with the hammer and the hammer release lever. It would be easy to screw up if your not paying attention.

My instructor would have us place a penny on the barrel of the gun and dry fire in attempts to keep certain shooters from flinching during the trigger pull. People shooting Glocks seemed to havemore control, then again I suppose it all depends on the shooter.

Glocks are alright, but if you haven't shot an XD or XD-m shoot those too. It all comes down to what feels better in your hand and I love my XD-45. I had a buddy of mine who has been all about glocks for god knows when, he shot the springfield and the next day he traded the his and went to a XD-40 sub compact.

If you did get one I'm not sure you would want to get caught with it. If I'm not mistaken I think its illegal to have a fully automatic weapon.

Mostly cadets but a few seasoned LEO's that spend their lives behind desks and had to deal with new departmental regs requiring re-certification. Glock triggers were easier to train newbs on since they're kinda squishy, there was no feel-able break point. The biggest problem with the 220 aside from the recoil management was stress training. The profusion of levers added about 1 second to tactical reloads under stress. Training with simunitions really exposes the KISS principle in weapons. For a IDPA shooter, a sig isn't bad but, for a cop I'd much rather them train with a Glock first. Then when they get to be a real master, then they can go to button/lever abundant guns.

The XD has yet to prove itself to me as a duty gun. The grip safety was a real retard move and was totally unnecessary. Still, if it proves reliable in the next few years, I'll go ahead and add it to my approved street duty gun list. Which right now is Glocks, Walther/S&W P-series, Ruger P and KP series, .357 revolvers, Kahr Arms, and a few others. The thing they all have in common is absolute simplicity and rugged reliability.

Not at all. A glock is a glock. They're all FINE weapons. The 36 was so small in the grip and is so uncontrollable with full power .45 loads and holds so little ammo and has such a wide slide profile that it completely fails at its goal of being a hideout gun. They also had the chance to use 1911 mags which would have been pimp but instead used their over expensive glock mags. If it held 9+ rounds in the mag I wouldn't gripe about them using their mag but with only 6 rounds, why engineer a new mag.

It's totally legal to own fully automatic weapons. Fill out BATF form 4, and pay your 200 dollar tax PER class 3 item, live in a Class 3 state, get your local sherrif or chief of police to say they're ok with it, pass a serious background check and then pay the 15000-35000 bucks (yes, I counted the zeros) that a transferrable (pre-1986 manufacture) Class 3 weapon costs and you're golden.

Thats freaking ridiculous. I have heard of this a time or two at work though. I didn't know you had to spend so much money and I'm sure the person that was telling me about it didn't know either.

Unless you've ever actually tried to do such a thing without violating any law that'll put you in prison, you'd never know that it's ******' near impossible.

Here's a tip, the ONLY reason (the application asks you why you want it) that's valid for a civilian to use as to WHY you want a class 3 weapon is "Collection and Investment". Answer even a tiny bit differently than that and you won't get it.
